My puppy swallowed fabric from her potty rug. What should I do?

Unfortunately, vomiting up a foreign body can only be done if the item was consumed in the past two hours, and given that you aren't sure when your pup ate your pillowcase, it may be too late to induce vomiting. There's nothing you can do to make her pass it quicker, and I would caution against using any human medications without veterinary approval or using a method you find on the internet as you may do harm to your pup. You can try giving her a slice of whole wheat bread now, and with every meal to form a ball of ingesta around the pillowcase to help cushion it as is passes through her GI tract. You can feed this piece of bread to her with every meal. I would monitor her for the next 72 hours of signs of obstruction, which include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, and constipation. Should you see any of those signs, please take her into the vet immediately. When you leave the house, I would recommend putting her in a crate, as that will keep her from getting into things while you are gone.

You can continue to watch her for any evidence of an obstruction which may be observed with symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, inappetence and/or lethargy. If these are observed, have Rudi evaluated by a veterianrian for further assessment and treatment as these can be signs of an obstruction which may need therapy. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. If kora is not exhibiting signs such as vomiting, lethargy, inappetance or abdominal pain then she is likely ok. If you notice these signs I would get kora seen by the vet and have x-rays performed to rule out an intestinal blockage. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. I would recommend contacting Midnight's vet about this. Depending on how long ago he ate it it may be recommended to induce vomiting and to try to get him to throw up the sheet. Otherwise closely monitor him for the next few days to weeks for any sign of intestinal blockage; which can include vomiting, straining to defecate, painful in the abdomen, not eating or drinking. Of course the concern would be a gastrointestinal obstruction from her eating pieces of her toy. At this point, if she has only vomited once, you may continue to monitor her closely to see if it is only going to be an isolated episode. Watch closely for signs associated with an obstruction such as nausea, vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain. If observed, have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment at that point. Good luck and have a great day!

Hello. If she is eating, drinking & still passing stools, then she may not need surgery. You definitely want to increase her intake of fluids. Supply low sodium broths or stocks for her to drink in addition to her fresh water. Switch to a wet diet & add a moderate amount of additional liquid to this, but not too much. You do not want to dilute the nutritional density of her food too much. Take 2 slices of bread & slather each piece with a layer of Vaseline & try to get her to eat this a piece at a time. If you can get one slice in her now, you can do the second piece later on or this evening. Hopefully this will lubricate her gut & push the rest of the material out of her. But if she stops eating & vomits everything, becomes bloated or shows abdominal pain, you will need to make a decision about her care. It is possible that she has an intestinal obstruction or blockage from eating parts of her blanket. This is usually diagnosed with x-rays of the abdomen, and an intestinal obstruction is a surgical emergency. If he absolutely cannot get her to a veterinarian until 7am, I recommend not feeding her any food in the meantime. She can have access to water, however she may vomit this up.
