My puppy has Parvo and Distemper. Can they survive both diseases?

Even with aggressive treatment, some puppies do not survive parvo or distemper. Having both at once is very serious and I would give Hachi a poor to grave prognosis. To have a liver problem on top of that could be even more serious, depending on what type of liver problem it is. Your post says 5 vaccines per day but I am thinking you mean 5 injections per day. These would include perhaps fluids, antibiotics, anti nausea medications, etc. Vaccines against distemper and parvo would not have any effect at this time and I do not recommend them for any sick pet. By all means it is your right to keep going with treatment but if she is getting worse instead of better or not improving after 5 days, I would recommend humane euthanasia. Dying of dehydration or continual seizures or liver failure are all horrible ways to go and are all possibilities for Hachi. Best wishes to you and Hachi.

A 3 month old puppy can survive parvo virus but it usually takes veterinary care to prevent dehydration from the vomiting and diarrhea. Most dogs with parvo require intravenous fluids, anti-vomiting medications, antibiotics, and other medications to treat. He should be examined and treated by a vet, if possible, to confirm the diagnosis and treat. The prognosis without veterinary care is not good, especially if he has severe vomiting and diarrhea.

Yes, just make sure the distemper vaccine does not already contain the parvo vaccine so you are not double dosing with the parvo virus. Also make sure to handle to vaccine appropriately. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I'm sorry to hear that Cooper has parvo! You did the right thing by taking him to the vet as soon as you noticed a problem. I'm glad he's currently hospitalized for treatment. Parvo is a serious illness and there are no guarantees... but in general, older puppies like Cooper tend to fare better than younger pups. Parvo is life threatening and often deadly with no cure, so the treatment focus would be exclusively on symptomatic treatment for that instead of the worms. If the dog does recover from parvo virus, as it is frequently fatal, then he can be treated for worms.

But yes, you do increase survival with quick veterinary action and appropriate treatment. The parvo vaccine at this time is not recommended because you suspect she may already be infected with parvovirus. The same applies to people, if a person has the flu already it is not advised to give them the flu vaccine. She will most likely not be okay with just hydration because parvovirus requires a multiple treatment for the best chance at survival. It is best to take her to your vet for proper medical treatment for parvovirus, which can be treated at home with medication given to you by the vet if you cannot hospitalize her (which is the optimal treatment). I have been successful in saving parvo infected pets with having the owner return daily for injectable antibiotics, anti-nausea medications, subcutaneous fluids and Vitamin B injections.
