My 3-week-old puppy has a grape-sized lump on his neck. Is it serious?

This lump in your puppy’s skin is probably nothing to worry about. It could be from an insect bite or sting or may be a reaction to a vaccine he had in that area. Keep an eye on it for now. If it becomes larger, painful, or red, then take him to your vet right away. Or if he starts acting lethargic, vomits/has diarrhea or stops wanting to eat, you should take him to be checked out. Hello, thank you for your question about Skurge. Based on the symptoms that you are describing I would be suspicious that this lump could be an abscess, or an infection. Dogs get abscesses in their neck area not uncommonly often secondary to trauma or bad dental disease (less likely in your puppy). I would recommend having Skurge seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine the area and discuss additional treatments. Hope this helps, good luck!

Poor baby! This could be a serious problem like a bacterial infection caused by strep called strangles or just a simple infection. I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at him soon before it gets worse. This can be easily treated if caught early. I hope this helps!

Depending on the location of the lump, it could be Chico's lymph node that is the swelling. Those get swollen due to lymphoma, cancer, or infection. Any suspicious lump should be checked out by your vet. I recommend taking Chico into your vet to have that lump examined. Your vet can do a test called a fine needle aspirate to determine what that lump could be. To do this, your vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform.

Hello. The lump is in the area of a lymph node, but it could also be a salivary gland enlargement or even a simple abscess. Any new or unusual lumps or bumps need to be thoroughly evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. I would call your veterinarian at your earliest convenience to have this looked at. Your veterinarian will probably insert a needle to draw out a sample of cells to be examined under a microscope. Hopefully, nothing significant will be found, but you do not want to chance waiting to see what happens. In a young dog these are often a little cyst or a mass known as a histiocytoma. These may grow a little bigger, but eventually go away on their own after a couple of months. I think it would fine to just monitor this for now. If grows rapidly, or breaks open, or has any other dramatic changes, then it's best to have your vet examine Capone in order to definitively diagnose the cause of this and provide the necessary treatment. It's a little difficult to tell what exactly is swollen in your picture, but it's possible that Frankie has an enlarged salivary gland or lymph node, or something like an abscess. All of these things can occur suddenly. I would recommend having your vet take a look - they might be able to get a better idea from being able to see and feel the swelling in person. They might recommend taking a sample using a small needle (fine needle aspirate) if it seems like a lymph node or salivary gland is swollen.
