Puppy's snout injured by door, bled. Should I take her to vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 14 days old | 22 lbs

I accidentally closed my puppy’s snout in our sliding glass door. She yelped for a brief period and then had a small amount of bleeding. She seemed okay after and cuddled and went to sleep. Should I bring her to the vet?

Hello. It sounds like you can jut watch her overnight & see if there is any swelling, continued bleeding, either from the mouth or nose, & how comfortable she is eating & drinking in the morning. Hopefully, she will juts be a little bruised, & if she has no other problems except some swelling, there is no need to rush her in to your veterinarian.
Of course, if anything at all should concern you, don't wait & do have her evaluated.
Take care & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
