What should I do for my 4-month-old puppy with skin parasites?

Hello, there are multiple different medications for different type of parasites. Parasites of the skin may include fleas, lice, ticks, or mites. You would need to differentiate between these type of parasites to determine which medication is needed. Hope this help and best of luck.

I’m unsure what products you have in the U.K., but some of my favorite products are Credelio, Nexgard, Bravecto or Simparica. These are all oral products that will prevent fleas as well as kill the ones on your dog. I hope that helps!

Prescription monthly Nexgard flea and tick preventative also kills mange and is approved for a 4 month old dog (monthly Simparica and Bravecto every 12 weeks also work off label to kill mange but are labeled for dogs 6 months and older). She can be just on monthly Nexgard without the ivermectin therapy but both are safe as well. I recommend inquiring with your vet about monthly Nexgard for Winter and seeing if she may have underlying allergies as well which can predispose dogs to getting mange. Prescription Apoquel pills or monthly Cytopoint allergy injections Injections are both very effective in treating itchiness from environmental allergies (typically characterized by paw licking, scratching, chronic anal gland issues, chronic ear infections). Either medication (Seresto or Bravecto) can be used. Since Lola is suffering from skin issues I would recommend Bravecto or Nexgard. Both of these are working very well. The Bravecto will even work against mites.

It probably is demodectic mange. I suggest you talk to your vet about putting him on Nexgard or Bravecto. Both are oral flea tablets that coincidentally also treat demodex. Easy to do and relatively inexpensive. They are prescription drugs though so you need to get them from your vet. So much easier than all the things you are doing and it works better. Hope this helps. If your veterinarian suspects a secondary infection, they could prescribe antibiotics. You can also use an e-collar to prevent self trauma. Good luck!

You would need to get a skin scrape at your vet's first to confirm it is indeed mites (it could be many other things). my preferred medication for mites is Bravecto although Advocate and Ivermectin are good options as well.
