My 5-month-old beagle has recurring itching and scabies. What helps?

My 5 month old beagle suffering from skin scabies she is under medication. For external use we are using Ivermectin 1.0% w/w soap. It's been three days now. Itching is there but the frequency is less now. In her skin I can see red colour in different spot due to itching. Is this curable because she is continuously affecting by this scabies. Two weeks she will be normal after that the itching starts again how can her overcome this help me I am really worried. She is 5kg now

Prescription monthly Nexgard flea and tick preventative also kills mange and is approved for a 4 month old dog (monthly Simparica and Bravecto every 12 weeks also work off label to kill mange but are labeled for dogs 6 months and older). She can be just on monthly Nexgard without the ivermectin therapy but both are safe as well. I recommend inquiring with your vet about monthly Nexgard for Winter and seeing if she may have underlying allergies as well which can predispose dogs to getting mange. Prescription Apoquel pills or monthly Cytopoint allergy injections Injections are both very effective in treating itchiness from environmental allergies (typically characterized by paw licking, scratching, chronic anal gland issues, chronic ear infections). The only way to definitively diagnose mange (Demodex) is by skin scrapings which should be repeated every 2-3 weeks during treatment until 2 negative skin scrapings are found. Make sure that the flea and tick medication prescribed will also treat mites (milbemycin or moxidectin) and keep in mind that the dosage frequency is different for mite treatment than it is for flea preventative. Treatment needs to continue for 1-2 months after there is a negative skin scraping. Steroids are usually contraindicated in treatment of Demodex. Demodex mites are not contagious to other animals so your other dogs may not be affected.

My dog has mange. How to apply medicine safely and stop licking?

There are better ways to treat mange. I recommend to speak with your veterinarian about using a product such as Nexgard for Simparica. These are tablets that you give once a month that are labeled for fleas but will kill mice as well. It is an off label usage so your veterinarian must OK the treatment. Then you don’t have to worry about tying her up, her licking the product or anything like that. Treatment typically takes 2 to 3 months. Depending on what type of mange is present, environmental cleanup is also needed. To keep her from licking the product, make her wear an Elizabethan collar for the prescribed amount of time. After some research I have found that you can buy Ivermectin. It is very EASY to overdose so please be careful dosing your dog. It is dosed by weight. My dog has scabies. How can I help with at-home treatment options?

Hi there! Scabies is generally fairly easy to treat. Your veterinarian should prescribe a medication such as Bravecto or ivermectin, which will clear it up without any problems. I'm not aware of any over-the-counter remedies that are effective, so this is best left to your veterinarian to treat :)

What should I do for my 4-month-old puppy with skin parasites?

Skin parasites can range from ticks/fleas where I would suggest a flea/tick preventive such as Seresto collar, Capstar or Bravecto. Bravecto is an oral medication that off-label can also protect from mange and mites. Bravecto can be ordered by your vet and the collar or topical flea/tick preventive is over the counter in the USA. My puppy has patchy skin & suspected demodex. Home remedies aren't working.

It probably is demodectic mange. I suggest you talk to your vet about putting him on Nexgard or Bravecto. Both are oral flea tablets that coincidentally also treat demodex. Easy to do and relatively inexpensive. They are prescription drugs though so you need to get them from your vet. So much easier than all the things you are doing and it works better. Hope this helps.
