My dog is trembling, drinking a lot, and not eating. What's wrong?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Without knowing Gunnars full history and tests that have been performed it is difficult to say what is going on. I would recommend starting for scratch even if you have already had labs done. I would have a complete blood panel and chemistry panel with thyroid testing preformed. I would test for heartworm disease and tick born diseases. I would also recheck a urine sample and check a blood pressure. Things can change over 2 months so while there may not have been abnormal results then, there may be now. There are many diseases that cause the signs you are seeing so without new labs there is no way you can rule them out for sure. If everything is still normal I would have an abdominal ultrasound done to see what’s going on inside his abdomen. Good luck and kisses to Gunnar!

Hi, she is so beautiful and does not look her age at all. I wonder if she is feeling a bit anxious as she seems to settle when wrapped up. The increased thirst and urination needs investigating through a blood sample. Try to tempt her to eat and to keep her comfortable. Hope this helps and that she feels better soon.

The trembling and [shaking](https://www.petcoach.co/article/why-is-my-dog-shaking-most-common-reasons) could be caused by pain, and the not eating and drinking could be caused by a [foreign body](https://www.petcoach.co/article/7-things-you-should-know-about-foreign-bodies-in-dogs), severe GI illness, or [pancreatitis](https://www.petcoach.co/article/pancreatitis-inflammation-in-dogs). Because she isn't eating or drinking, I'm recommending you take her into your vet right away. Not drinking can lead to dehydration, which may complicate any underlying condition(s). Your vet can determine what is causing these symptoms, and how best to treat it. Please take her into your vet today.

It sounds like your dog may be sick, and even though the diagnostics did not show much, there may still be something going on with him and additional diagnostics should be considered. These may include an abdominal ultrasound, urinalysis, and repeat bloodwork. If you dog is still acting abnormally, then have him evaluated by your emergency clinician tonight. The slurping noise could simply be from eating a food with more moisture instead of having to crunch the dry kibbles. Trembling can be caused by so many things. To name just a few: pain, anxiety, muscle problems, neurologic problems, toxic exposure. If he is steadily losing weight but eating well, I would feed him more! If he doesn't gain weight in 1-2 weeks, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Also, you can use an OTC pet dewormer and see if that helps. If Tobias develops vomiting, diarrhea, or does not show a great appetite, I would recommend that he see a vet as soon as possible. Potential causes for this include dietary intolerance, dietary indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others.

The most common diseases that cause dogs to drink and urinate more are urinary tract infections, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, cushings disease, and addisons disease. If the urinalysis was negative for infection then, hopefully, the bloodwork will help diagnose the problem. Hopefully, the bloodwork will be back in the morning. Hope she feels better soon!

It is not uncommon for very small animals to feel a little chilly after drinking a lot of water, however, if Kylie continues to shiver for more than a half hour, or if this happens again I would consider checking in with your veterinarian. If Kylie starts having any signs of lethargy, vomiting, or diarrhea you should seek an emergency clinic. I hope this helps!
