Why does my puppy seem sad after playdates? How often is too much?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

How frequent should my puppy have a playdate? She's a beagles that loves attention and gives plenty of love to people. Sometimes she seems depressed after her playdate. She usually has a daily playdate with a dog inn our neighborhood. I try to keep it about an. hour long. I'm her momma and the people at the home I take her to are very loving. She also seems to be less affectionate to me and my husband. Both animals are rescued. The other dog is timid.although she and I have bonded.

I think it's fabulous you are doing daily play dates with your dog, and I would keep it up! It's natural she may seem a little depressed after leaving the play date. She was having fun with her friend, and she doesn't want it to end. I have a Basset Hound and my friend across the street has a female one. We get together for play dates, and we call them boyfriend/girlfriend (I have a male). They both get sad about being separated and sulk for a bit after their play dates end. I would keep up the daily play dates, it's great exercise for them and great socialization.
