Why does my puppy rub his face on treats? Is this normal behavior?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Bruce doesn't do this with any other chew toy or bone then I would throw it away. If he rubs his face after licking or chewing on it, he may be wiping the drool off his lips and face. That isn't abnormal. Rubbing his face from just sniffing it isn't normal unless you think he is trying to bury it. I wish you the best!

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concerns. What you are describing sounds behavioral but could potentially be caused by allergies as well. If Marbles has an allergy and is itchy around the face this may be his way of itching his face by rubbing it on the carpet. You can try Benadryl to see if this helps and also using a shampoo such as Duoxo PS Calm shampoo to see if this stops or decreases the behavior. Over time, this Behavior will likely resolve or greatly reduce. you can try and apply bitter apple to the areas where Preston likes to lick and see if this helps deter her from doing this behavior. You can also use a spray bottle filled with water and lightly Spritz Preston in the face whenever she licks you and say “off!” while spraying her. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. What he's doing is probably instinctively trying to cover his food. Some dogs exhibit this behavior, which is perfectly normal. If you put down a paper towel, he may try to use that to cover his food.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is Cori showing his extreme excitement and joy of receiving this treat. All animals react differently. There is probably not much you can do about the whining/crying. For the trying to bury it I would make him calm down and lay down to eat it. As for stealing other dogs bones, I would have your friends pick up their dogs bone and be sure to teach Cori how to listen and come. If he sees a bone he should know to "leave it" and "drop it."
