Can my puppy stay on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal food long-term?

While Royal Canin gastrointestinal diet is a prescription diet meant for dogs with gastrointestinal problems or sensitivities, dogs that do not have any gastrointestinal issues can also receive this diet. However, I would be sure to check with your veterinarian to ensure it is okay for your other two dogs to receive this food. Dogs that have certain medical conditions such as liver or kidney disease should not receive any diet or food that is not approved first by their veterinarian. I hope this helps!

That is why I recommend diets made by companies like Royal canin, Purina and Science Diet as they have extensive research on these diets to confirm that they are a good all around diet for a dog. Prescription diet A/D is high in calories so it may not be the most suitable diet for long term. You have to monitor Coco's weight to determine when this food needs to be discontinued. Also it isn't necessarily a puppy food, so it's best to go back to his normal large breed puppy diet primarily and then if you want to mix in just a few tablespoons of the A/D to keep him interested, that may be completely fine until he reaches sexual maturity and no longer has high calorie food demands, which is typically around 8-12 months of age in large breed dogs. There are many causes for loose stool in puppies and in some cases the bowel is just slow to develop and adapt to the demands of a rapidly growing dog! My preferred option is royal canin gastrointestinal junor, which should be fed for at least 6 weeks to promote bowel development. Probiotics such as fortiflora can also be very effective and a fibre supplement such as profibre may be added alongside the kibble or wet food

Yes, Royal Canin is one of the best diets available and it’s what I feed my own dogs and cats. Get the large breed puppy or the golden retriever puppy diet and feed this until he is 1 year old. Make sure to transition the diet over 1 week to avoid causing GI upset. I hope this helps.

It is not a good idea as this food is for giant breeds and specifically formulated to keep them from growing too fast. This will not help your puppy recuperate. Your puppy needs the proper food for either German Shepherd puppies or for large breed puppies.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am not sure I am reading this right but I will try to clarify what I think you mean. Prince should be fed a large breed puppy food. In the States, giant breed is for mastiffs and Great Danes so large breed is perfect for a Rottweiler. Royal Canin makes excellent puppy and dog food. At 5 weeks he can definitely have puppy food as long as he has teeth. You may need to water down the dry food to make it softer for him to chew. These foods are designed for young puppies until about 1 year of age. It has the proper blend of vitamins and minerals to help his body and organs grow. I would continue to feed the Royal Canin. In the States we call biscuits “treats”, so as long as you mean biscuits is food and not treats you should be all set. I hope this helps. Good luck and kisses to Prince!
