Why won't my puppy walk on tile floors and why does he shiver in sleep?

This actually isn’t an uncommon problem. But the fact that it comes and goes depending on the day and the used to be fine is a little more concerning. I would suggest a vet check up because sudden changes could indicate a change in health (maybe sight?). And I would want to rule out any medical causes. Next to work on this issue I would put lots of area mats down or a carpet runner. Your dog should be more comfortable walking on that. I would get the dog used to coming back in the room on carpet and king carpet to carpet. Please them maybe a foot apart at first and put treats on the one your dog isn’t on. The plan is to get your pup comfortable going back and forth between the mats and getting rewarded for it so it’s a positive experience. Once they are comfortably going back and forth you can start to increase he distance between the mats and repeat the process. Hopefully with some positive reinforcement and work your pup will get comfortable again

That does sound a bit like nerves, especially if it is only happening when you pick him up a certain way and he doesn't have any other symptoms. I would try to pick him up in a way that is more comfortable with him, as well as try to get him more used to be handled. This can be done by offering a favorite treat every time you handle him -- such as when you pick him up, touch his paws, face, etc. Praising and rewarding will help him to associate it with good things and can make handling and picking him up a bit easier in the future as well. If the behavior continues, worsens, or other symptoms appear, it is always a good idea to have your vet take a look as well to rule out any health or pain issues that could be causing it.

Puppies do tend to sleep very deeply and they do dream more than adult dogs. I recommend to record one of these episodes. Start filing before you begin to stimulate her and then record the entire session until she is fully awake. Show it to her veterinarian. This will help to give a better idea of pathology or not. If he is otherwise normal I'm not concerned. He may be stressed from moving to a new home or dreaming. If it was a seizure you would notice him going from normal to having muscle spasms, then getting back to normal in a few minutes. It's a good idea to video the behavior and write down when it occurs so you have a history to discuss with your veterinarian should it get worse. I like to write down the episodes on a calendar so I can go back and check the frequency. Willis may stop this as he becomes settled in your house and as he gets older. If he appears agitated, weak or ill please take him right in for an exam. You may want to double check with his breeder to see if any other pups or the parents are doing this. Cavaliers do get heart disease, but usually when they are old, and purebred dogs can get epilepsy but seizures often don't start until they are six months to a year old. I'm sorry to hear that your pup isn't doing well. I recommend taking him to an emergency clinic right away for evaluation. His blood sugar could be low, he could have a liver issue that is allowing toxins to build up in his system, he could have a congenital issue with his digestive tract, or something else entirely. His vet will likely do an exam, draw a bit of blood, and maybe take x-rays. I hope he's feeling better soon!

I would just keep an eye on him and if it should happen again take a note on how long does the shaking last, if he is salivating, passing urine or feaces, as this could be signs of a seizure. It' s important not to overstimulate him so let him come out of the seizure spontaneously, make sure he is not on an elevated surface and turn off lights and avoid loud noises.The seizure should last a couple of minutes and then stop. If it doesn't stop you should seek veterinary help. Hopefully it will not happen again, if it does appear to have another seizure make sure you offer some water and food once it' s over. There is a chance that Ted did not have a seizure but he was just twitching in his sleep .. so try not to worry too much ! If Ted should have seizures, he will need further investigations to understand what is causing them and remember that at no point he should have a seizures after another, if this should occur you should take him to see a vet asap. One off seizure is not an emergency though, and it' s normally contraindicated to rush them to a clinic as this could trigger more seizures. If you are worried and you are not sure about what s happening, call for advice/have him checked over.

Minnesota is really cold in winter! It could be he was cold from the outside, and that's why he was shivering. It could have taken him a while to warm up. Given he is young and it gets so cold where you live, I'd get a coat for him to wear when outside, and limit his time out there as much as possible when it gets really cold out. Bring him out to potty, and take him right back inside when he's done. Have a warm bed set up for him with blankets. I hope this helps!
