Why is my puppy rebellious and challenging me after neutering?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 18 days old | 115 lbs

I’m trying to train my dog recently. And I’ve noticed that AFTER I got him fixed. That’s when the rebellion is coming. It’s not to the point i can’t control him and he doesn’t listen at all. But i noticed now that basic commands we learned when he came home he is sometimes doing it and then he stares me in the face and i try not to repeat myself when i say the command but he definitely tries me. He’s naturally really submissive and listens very well. But how do you get over this rebellion?

This is totally normal behavior for a 7 month old puppy. He is trying to find his place in the pack. This is the time they challenge higher ranking pack members which includes you. You just have to work through this and be consequent in your actions. He will eventually stop the challenging behavior.

You’ve reached the teenage stage. Plenty of exercise is needed to get him tired which will lessen this adolescent behavior. Neutering will help also but mostly it will improve as he gets to be an adult. I do recommend a group obedience class. That will help him learn to focus on you with other people and dogs around and will challenge his mind also. My neutered dog pees on other dogs. Is this normal marking behavior?

This can be either a dominance issue, or a submissive behavior, as he is still a young dog. You can use gentle correction at the first sign he may try to mark, but it is not an indication of anything serious. All dogs perceive their world just a bit differently from one another. Just like people. Work with him to discourage the behavior & try not to put him in the position where he needs to mark other dogs. He will hopefully outgrow the behavior. Is it normal for my neutered dog to lick another dog's private parts?

It is not sexual, but it is behavioral. This is how they are establishing which will be the dominant, leader of the pack, dog. You do not have to stop some things but I would keep a close watch on the growling and make sure it does not progress to biting or attacking. From there it the behaviors will likely improve as they adjust more

Why is my female dog aggressive towards my male dog after neutering?

Hi there. Actually, yes! To reasons not always know to us-changes in the hormonal makeup of our animals (i.e. a recent neuter) can make them smell different. Many theories have been postulated as to why previously accepting partners will turn away the new "smell" and show aggression. Many think it is frustration in the change. Some think it is because they now want to show dominance. Often, we do not ever really know for sure. Normally with time the pair will acclimate again, but I usually recommend supervised playtime until then. I hope this helps!

My dog is dominant. How can I train him to listen and behave?

Neutering will definitely help, but it won't be an "off switch" for his dominance. A pheromone product, such as the Adaptil collar, may help the behavior. Consider formal training/obedience classes. Make Billy "work" for everything. If he wants to go out, play, eat he has to perform a task (sit, stay, etc). Correct negative behavior immediately. Praise and reward him when he complies. Ant treat or reward he gets should be tiny. If he acts up or gets too wild, place him in a different room or area (not his crate) until he settles down. Be firm and be consistent.
