Is it normal for my neutered dog to lick another dog's private parts?

Hi there. Many dogs are interested in the genital areas of other dogs - there are lots of interesting smells there, regardless of spay/neuter status :) No need for concern unless she's doing it so much that it's annoying to the other dog, in which case I would redirect her to some other activity or keep her on-leash so that she can't constantly bother him.

This is a dominance behavior, more than a sexual behavior. Neutering does not make these types of behaviors go away - even some female dogs will mount other dogs! Rico is likely just playing and trying to assert his dominance and be "alpha" to the other dogs. As long as he acts playful to the other dogs and is not being aggressive/biting/fighting, this mounting is just fine! I hope this is helpful - best of luck with Rico!

This can be either a dominance issue, or a submissive behavior, as he is still a young dog. You can use gentle correction at the first sign he may try to mark, but it is not an indication of anything serious. All dogs perceive their world just a bit differently from one another. Just like people. Work with him to discourage the behavior & try not to put him in the position where he needs to mark other dogs. He will hopefully outgrow the behavior. This is not a sexual behavior, but likely a response to stress, anxiety or to assert his dominance. Correct the behavior immediately when you see it. Remove him from the dog with a stern "No" and offer a toy or task to distract him. Praise and reward him when he complies. If he persists, separate him until he settles down. Be firm and be consistent.

However, excessive licking in this area can also be a sign of urinary tract infection, prepucial infection, inflammation or allergies. Even neutered dogs can have their penis come out from time to time. If it stays out for an extended period of time or the dog cannot get it back into the prepuce this can be an emergency medical condition. This could be a dominance behavior or may be due to an abnormal production of hormones such as cushings disease. I recommend a full vet check and bloods especially if there are any additional symptoms such as altered appetite and or coat changes

If the little dog is not neutered, it’s likely related to that. Sometimes male dogs will exhibit this behavior other male dogs. It’s unclear why they exhibit that behavior. Sometimes it can also be a sign of anxiety and the small dog is using the large dog as a comfort blanket. You must read the rest of the body language to know what he is saying.
