Why does my puppy poop next to the potty pad instead of on it?

You can start with the pad on the carpet where he goes. Each time he doe sit correctly give him a treat. Then you gradually start moving it back to where you want it and still reward him each time. The other option is start taping the edges down so he can't move the pad anymore and limit his roam of the house. Keep him confined to a smaller area until he gets better. At his age, it is very early for him to be house trained, so keep trying, he will get there over the next month

I would recommend against puppy training pads. Sometimes when you train them on puppy training pads as they age then still urinate in the house on paper when you want them to go outside. If you plan on taking Raven outside to go to the bathroom I would recommend starting to do it now. Raven is so very young that he will not be trained for a few months. Don't stress, it will happen. I would recommend crate training: Many people state that crate training is cruel but a crate is a safe haven for your puppy and many dogs use it as a place to rest and recovery after a long day. This method is extremely effective when house training and helps when you cannot watch Raven. You must choose a crate that Raven can stand up, sit down and turn around. Getting a crate bigger then this can lead Raven to urinate or defecate on one side of the crate while sleeping on the other side. A crate should only create a positive environment. Never use the crate for punishment. Despite what many people think do not line the crate with blankets or beds. The reason is Raven can urinate on the blankets and beds which can soak up the urine and he can bury the stool. Keeping Raven in the crate when you cannot keep 100% eye on him is important. Every time you take him out of the crate take him on a walk to make sure they go to the bathroom and give positive reinforcement if he does. If they do not eliminate while you are outside or on the puppy pad then put Raven back in the crate for another 20minutes. After 20 minutes take him out once again to try. If Raven does go to the bathroom make sure you take time to play with him and when you have to turn your back again put them back in the crate. If you catch him having an accident in the house tell Raven no and then take him outside or to the puppy pad and praise him if he goes. At 8 weeks, your puppy is not potty trained and is likely very confused. The key to potty training is to offer Gracie lots of chances to go where you want her to go. She'll need to be supervised while in the house until she gets the hang of things. This means someone needs to be actively watching her, not just in the room with her. After she eats, after she plays, and after she sleeps, take her over to the pee pads and give her whatever command you'd like to use for toileting. If she's close to the edge, pick her up and place her in the middle, or put a few training pads together to make a bigger area. Once she does go, praise her lavishly, and give her a treat. If you catch her peeing or pooing where she's not supposed to, then simply make a loud noise to stop her, pick her up and put her on the pee pads and give her the command. If you catch her after she's already gone elsewhere there's no point in punishing her as she won't associate what she's done with the punishment. Remember she's just a baby and she's still learning, so be consistent and offer her lots of opportunities. Good luck!

I'm sorry that you're having this problem with your pup! I don't think he's stubborn at all - he just doesn't understand what you want. If Zatar is only about 8 weeks old, he's too young to be able to have much control over his bowels or bladder yet - so it's normal for him to "go" wherever he happens to be when he gets the urge. Most pups naturally want to use the bathroom on absorbent surfaces, so I would recommend covering the bathroom floor in potty pads for now if that's the area you eventually want him to use. Every 20-30 minutes or so, and after every meal, take him into the bathroom with you and close the door. Sit with him and be patient - if he uses the bathroom, praise and reward him right away with a treat. If he doesn't, then put him in a crate or keep him with you on a leash so that you can watch him closely - then bring him back to the bathroom right away if you see him starting to squat. Then praise and reward when he finishes up there. It's very important not to punish him for accidents, as this will only make him afraid to potty in front of you - which will make it much harder to teach him what you want! Please don't make him smell his urine or stool and scold him, as he won't understand this at all - it will only confuse and scare him. Potty training usually takes several weeks or even months before your puppy will be reliable, so be patient and understand that you will need to watch him closely and be very consistent for a long time in order for him to "get it." 2 months is extremely young, and Harley likely doesn't know what you expect from her. As for not sniffing, that is pretty normal for this age. Training to go on a puppy potty pad uses the same techniques as regular potty training, so it is best to work on a regular potty schedule like you would if you were taking her outside. Crate training can also help, however a 2 month old puppy likely can't hold it more than 1-2 hours at most.
