Puppy pooping in crate at night? Is it diarrhea or not potty trained?

I commonly see puppies learning quickly and not having accidents get to this age and just forget everything they have learned. As long as there is no medical problem, I would go back to the basics- stay on a schedule, lots of trips outside to prevent an accident, lots of praise when he goes outside. This behavior usually lasts about a week and then they snap back to normal. Good luck and kisses to Max!

This can be a sign of a medical illness, like diarrhea. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, Rocky will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Mocha is adorable! Since she is only 8 weeks old and is now lethargic I think you should have her seen when your Vet reopens. Bring a stool sample with you. Also bring any paper work showing vaccinations you received when you got her. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral (parvo virus) and bacterial infections, she ate something gross that upset her tummy, toxin ingestion, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat/human food. It's possible she is getting mixed signals from daycare but it's impossible to say for sure. I recommend crating her when you are not directly watching her and at night. This may help to remind her about her housebreaking. You may also want to walk her more often and keep her feeding on a schedule. There is no one reason on why dogs will all of a sudden start pooping in the house. I would recommend going back to crate training Cali. I would keep Cali in the crate when you cannot keep 100% watch on her. When she comes out of the crate I would then walk her. If she goes then I would play with her and once you have to turn your back she goes back in the crate. If she does not go to the bathroom when you take her out of the crate I would put her back in for 20 minutes and try again. If you catch Cali going to the bathroom tell her no and take her and put her where you want her to go and praise her for going. If you just see the accident then clean it up and do not say anything to Cali. A crate should be big enough for her to stand up, sit down and turn around. The crate is a very safe option and dogs end up loving their crates, it's their safe house. I would try this route. I would also recommend getting a stool sample performed at your veterinarian's office. This will rule out intestinal parasites. We can not prescribe medications on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach as the laws require a vet to examine an animal in order to do so. I am glad that Coco is eating, I would start him on a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. This bland diet helps bind up the stool and usually helps the diarrhea. You can also start a dog probiotic, I like Purina Fortiflora. I would also deworm him with pyrantal pamoate or panacur. If the diarrhea started after starting the neopeptine and/or the liv52 I would stop them. I personally do not use human supplements in pets and urge caution in doing so. If the bland diet and probiotic doesn't help Coco needs to be examined by a Vet near you. I hope this helps and I wish Coco the very best!

I recommend first to have Kiki examined by the veterinarian to have her stool checked for bacterial over growth or parasites. If she is experiencing inflammation in her gut, this could speed up the GI transit time meaning she will need to go to the bathroom. If no medical cause can be found, I recommend to feed the brand Royal Canin because it tends to be a low residue diet (as long as it is not the 'diet' formula) and pets who eat this diet tend to produce less stool. I would also switch her to twice a daily feeding (6pm latest) and make sure she has an evening bowel movement before bed. This will help to not make her have a BM in the middle of the night.
