Why is my puppy's lip pink after shots? Is it a vaccine reaction?

Hello. It may just be coincidental, or Lucas may be having a mild hypersensitivity reaction to the vaccinations. Just watch the area for spread, or if the area should become very itchy. This could very well be the start of a vaccine reaction. I would consider taking him in to the vet now to make sure his vitals are ok and to go ahead and get him treated. It's best to be safe than sorry when you have inflammation in the face the same day vaccines were given. Hello. It is possible that your puppy is having a reaction. If it is not terribly bad, it should subside in 24 hours. However, if it is getting worse, your puppy develops diarrhea or any difficulty breathing, please see your vet. And, you might want to consider having your vet administer the next set of shots. Since the bumps aren't bothering Max, you can choose to monitor him. They may resolve on their own, but if not then he should be seen by your veterinarian. It could be an allergic reaction or localized infection. Monitor for rapid change or growth, redness, pain, discharge or itching. If necessary, use an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking or chewing until he sees the vet.

A swollen face, swollen lips, red eyes, severe itching or difficulty breathing may all be symptoms of a vaccine reaction. An antihistamine, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), can be given but only under the advice of your veterinary. You're right it is hard to tell from the photos. I think it looks more like mange. The unfortunate thing is that many skin issues look similar so it is often difficult to tell exactly what it is just by looking at it. I can say that I have not had a vaccine reaction look that way so I think that is less likely. Also, vets don't usually use the back of the neck for vaccinating anymore - are you sure the vaccine was given there? I don't think it's an emergency. I would recommend putting some Neosporin on it for now and then just bring it up at the next vet exam. He should be due for booster vaccines in a few weeks. This could be an allergic reaction or an infection. If he was around another dog there is a chance that he could have been snipped at by another dog as well. Since he didn't want to eat I would have your veterinarian check him out to ensure he doesn't need any medication like antibiotics, pain meds, or steroids. I hope this helps.
