Dog vomited Prednisone pill. Do I redose if I didn't see the pill?

Yes in two hours the tablet should have been absorbed and dissolved already. This medication must be given with food and water as well as can cause oesophageal inflammation. I would suggest to wait until next dosage and I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Poor Layla! Her vomiting may be caused by the antibiotics, which can cause nausea and in rare cases, constriction of the esophagus. Steroids (prednisone) can cause stomach ulcers and kidney issues in high, chronic doses. Unfortunately, the vomiting and lethargy can be caused by a number of other conditions, which can just be a coincidence, so I recommend having Layla seen as soon as possible to rule out things like intestinal obstructions or torsion.

If you saw the pills/capsules come up with the vomit, I would recommend redosing immediately. If you didn't actually see the medications and it was more than an hour after administration, wait until the next scheduled time. Good luck with your pup!

If Cheese threw the pill right back up without it being dissolved at all, you can give her another one. Should she throw that one back up, I would give your vet a call right away to let them know that she is unable to keep down the prednisone.

Both doxycycline and prednisone can cause vomiting and diarrhea. I am not sure of the dose that your dog is on but maybe your vet could adjust the dose so he has less gastrointestinal problems. Feeding the medication with a meal can sometimes help with the gastrointestinal side effects so make sure to give with food. Your vet could also prescribe an anti-vomiting medication, probiotic, and GI protectant which may help, too. At this point, If he is just going to vomit the medication than it doesn't make sense to give it. You should wait and see if your vet can prescribe additional medications to help with the vomiting and diarrhea. If the vomiting and diarrhea has stopped, you could try to give one medication at a time with food and see how he does.

The extra dose probably caused the vomiting. Doxycycline does cause vomiting as a side effect. If the vomiting resolves, then I would not be concerned. If the vomiting persists, contact your veterinarian.
