Why does my puppy run from poop and lick her bottom painfully, and eyelid droops?

If Lulu is having trouble defecating properly, or is having runny stool that sticks to her bottom it is best to schedule a vet visit. Parasites, GI upset, constipation, allergies, muscular or neurologic issues may all cause runny stools or difficulty defecating. If you can, bring in a sample of Lulu's stool with you to the vet to help check for the most common GI causes.

Not sure what happened here. A number of things can cause a pet to yelp, including inflammation of the colon (colitis), being bitten by a bug, stepping on something sharp, etc. You will have to do a good exam of your pets back end and paws to see if there is anything obvious there. If there aren't any obvious inflamed or red areas, then its best to monitor Lulu for the next 6 hrs to see if the incident happens again. Best case scenario is that this is just an isolated incident and there isn't anything serious to be concerned about. Puppies sleep all the time, so that isn't particularly worrisome either. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lola! Lola's eye is very abnormal. I wonder if it is something genetic like early cataracts. Has the eye been abnormal since you got her? I would highly recommend that you see a Veterinary Ophthalmologist. Your Veterinarian should be able to refer you. be sure your Vet checked her intra-ocular pressure, danes are prone to glaucoma. It appears you took her to the Vet and they stained the eye for an ulcer. They can also get rolling in or rolling out of the eye lids. I hope this helps in some way, but if she was my dog I would see a specialist. Good luck!

Lola certainly sounds uncomfortable! Discomfort with movement of the tail can have a variety of causes, including spinal/vertebral pain, anal gland problems (impacted, abscessed, or simply full), urinary tract infections, etc. From your description of yelping and panting, it does sound as though Lola is painful. She should see her vet for an exam. Your vet will be able to perform a rectal exam to check her anal glands, neurologic and orthopedic exam to check her back and tail function, and even a urinalysis to check for signs of infection.

This is most suspicious of a demodex (a microscopic mite) infection. They tend to have irritation and hair loss around their eyes and other parts of the face. It can also affect other parts of the body. Demodex is actually normally found on dogs and does not usually cause a problem. It is not uncommon for puppies to react to it at this age though. However, they usually will clear the infection on their own and don't need treatment. This will normally go away within three weeks. If it lasts longer than that or gets worse (losing hair on other parts of the body), then it's best to get her diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian. For now, you can give a little relief and prevent infection by washing the area gently with baby shampoo. Use cool water and flush the area for at least 5 minutes once a day. It sounds as Luna is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet urgently, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Swelling around the anal region could be an indication of an impacted or infected anal gland. The constipation you describe could be due to lack of fiber in the diet, eating something out of the ordinary, or perhaps an infectious cause such as an intestinal worm infection. If Mila has not seen her veterinarian for this yet, I would recommend this happen soon. Her veterinarian may recommend an exam, anal gland expression, and fecal test to help determine a cause so she can be treated appropriately. I hope this helps!
