My puppy went outside before shots. What disease symptoms to watch?

They get most of the contagious disease form direct contact with a sick dog or by eating infected stool. Just walking your dog doesn't necessarily put them at risk. Keep up with his DHPP vaccine every 3-4 weeks until he has had two past 12 weeks of age. Signs to look out for are: vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, lethargy. I wish you the best

However, the likelihood of Luna developing parvovirus just from being walked in a heavily trafficked area is low unless she directly had contact with feces from an infected dog. I would not be too concerned at this time. Just work with your primary care veterinarian in starting her on a vaccination protocol and avoid contact with other dogs with an unknown vaccination status until she is fully vaccinated. I will tell you what to look for in terms of parvovirus symptoms though again it is unlikely that she has parvovirus. Symptoms usually include lethargy, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Contact your veterinarian to get her set up to start a vaccination program soon. I think she will be fine. Nothing like getting a new pup! I bet she is adorable! Good luck!

In theory, she has not mount a response to her vaccines yet so she can still get infected with like parvovirus if those feces were infected with parvovirus. However, that is very unlikely so I would not worry about that too much as the chance of that is very small. Good luck and have a great day! She is likely going to be just fine.

There are no specific do's and don'ts specifically other than making sure to continue the vaccination and deworming protocol as specified and recommended by your veterinarian. If you take him to the same spot every time and make sure there are no unvaccinated dogs around, it should be ok. I hope this helps!

It depends on your area. I do recommend outside training with dogs that were vaccinated once. Although, still caution people because the puppies are not fully vaccinated. Make sure he does not come into contact with other dogs unless you know the people and their dogs are healthy and up to date on vaccinations. Unfortunately, Maximus is not fully vaccinated at this point, so he should not be going outside. Depending on your state, he can be fully vaccinated by 12 or 16 weeks. If this was his first round of shots, he will need a booster in 2-4 weeks and then his Rabies vaccine at 12-16 weeks as well as his last booster. Maximus should have minimal contact with other dogs (even where other dogs have gone to the bathroom) as you can’t be sure they are not carrying any of the viruses that Maximus is not vaccinated for that can make him very sick. I know it is difficult to keep a large active puppy inside, but your vet can work with you to have Maximus fully vaccinated in a reasonable amount of time.
