My puppy won't eat her food and vomits after eating pork. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 lbs

My puppy isn't eating puppy chow anymore and will not eat table food. I gave her pork on Sunday and she doesn't seem to want anything but that. But today i realised that she vomited and when i gave her pork she vomited the pork she isn't eating a thing. What can i do??

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear Bailey is having this problem. You may have to experiment with various puppy foods to see which one she prefers to eat and that you feel comfortable purchasing. Table food is discouraged for many reasons especially since it can cause stomach/gut problems. You can also try to flavor the dry food with some chicken broth to see if she will eat it. If she is not wanting to eat with or without vomiting/diarrhea, you should take her to your vet and have her evaluated. Not eating is serious especially in small breed puppies. Not eating can be caused by parasites (worms), infection, inflammation, not liking the food, etc. Your vet can evaluate her, run some tests (fecal, blood, etc) and advise what treatment is needed or they can just suggest nutritional things to try. I hope Bailey gets well soon.

I recommend taking her to the vet with a fresh stool sample to rule out intestinal parasites first. She may also need X-rays to rule out an obstruction. I would stop feeding her the human foods as she is likely to hold out for those vs eating her puppy food diet. You can try adding canned puppy food to her dry food to get her more intested. As long as there are no health concerns she will eat when she's hungry. Right now, you are caving to her before she caves and eats and is therefore promoting a picky behavior. Why is my puppy throwing up food and eating it after vaccinations?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Amaya. She may have an upset stomach. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Why is my 8-week-old puppy vomiting, having diarrhea, and not eating?

Baily is so cute! I am concerned though that he is not eating and having such intestinal upset. I would recommend you take Baily in for an exam with your vet as soon as possible. Puppies this young can get dehydrated very quickly and become quite ill. I am worried about the possibility of intestinal parasites, eating something he shouldn't have (dietary indiscretion), or even a bacterial or viral infection (like parvovirus). Baily may need some tests to see what the underlying cause is, such as a parvo test and fecal test. He also may need some anti-nausea medication, antibiotics, or even fluid therapy if he is dehydrated. I hope he gets back on track quickly!

Why is my puppy throwing up food and white foam after eating?

Hi and thank you for your question on PetCoach! If this is the first time in a while that Bonnie has thrown up, I wouldn't worry too much about this one time incident. It could be she ate too fast or didn't chew her food properly as the kibble and egg (?) appears to be intact still. The white foam is just saliva and mucous from the mouth and stomach lining. It is nothing too concerning. If she continues to regurgitate her food or vomit, I would see a veterinarian soon to ensure there is not something more concerning that is causing the frequent vomiting. Keep a an eye of her for the next day or so. Why is my 4-week-old Pomeranian puppy throwing up and not eating?

Poor Blue! Small breed young puppies are delicate and they are extremely prone to low blood sugar if they don’t eat well. This condition can be fatal. There are many causes for vomiting including worms, change in diet, bacteria over growth and Parvo. I recommend to have Blue seen today by his veterinarian. It’s very important to get these little puppies eating and not vomiting to avoid low blood sugar. The doctor will need to run some tests to determine the cause. Offer him boiled white meat chicken and boiled white rice. This is a bland diet which can help to settle his stomach. Smaller, more frequent meals are better than two large ones.
