Why is my 7-month puppy picky, won't eat, and throws up bile?

You may have to experiment with various puppy foods to see which one she prefers to eat and that you feel comfortable purchasing. Table food is discouraged for many reasons especially since it can cause stomach/gut problems. You can also try to flavor the dry food with some chicken broth to see if she will eat it. If she is not wanting to eat with or without vomiting/diarrhea, you should take her to your vet and have her evaluated. Not eating is serious especially in small breed puppies. Not eating can be caused by parasites (worms), infection, inflammation, not liking the food, etc. Your vet can evaluate her, run some tests (fecal, blood, etc) and advise what treatment is needed or they can just suggest nutritional things to try. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would also recommend having a look at ( www.balanceit.com ) and use the free autobalancer to help formulate a homemade diet for her. You can also try adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online quite easily. I hope this helps! Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Your puppy has very vague symptoms of vomiting which can mean she has an upset stomach. I believe I see milk in the bowl you have in the picture there. If that is the case I would stop giving that right away. Domino is more than old enough not to still be getting puppy milk. If she continues to vomit after stopping the milk, then it's best to take her to your vet for a full examination and possible testing to determine why she is vomiting so that we know how to best help her. Also I would recommend bathing her in Dawn dish detergent to strip all the fleas off her for now. Make sure not to get any in her eyes and follow up with an oatmeal based or aloe based shampoo and conditioner to prevent her skin from getting too dry. She is old enough for Revolution topical flea and heartworm preventative from your local vet, so I would recommend getting her hat to protect her from the fleas here moving forward. Dogs can vomit due to many conditions from stress, to ingestion of a foreign body or toxin, eating too quickly, intestinal parasites, or viral infections. If Onyx is acting normally, you can continue to monitor her at home. I recommend holding off food and treats until tomorrow morning, and then giving her only about 1/2 of her normal portion. She should have access to small amounts of water to prevent her from drinking too quickly and causing herself to vomit. She should be seen by a vet as soon as possible if you notice that she doesn't have an appetite or energy, or begins having diarrhea. I hope this helps and that Onyx feels better soon!

Vomiting can be observed with gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity, foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. This could be a number of things - parasites, a bacterial or viral GI infection, or even an intestinal blockage. At 2.5 months of age, Gus is especially at risk for parvovirus, a serious GI infection. We always worry about fluid loss in young puppies, so I would recommend getting him to a vet ASAP, to diagnose the cause of the vomiting, and start appropriate therapy.

Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
