Why is my 8-week puppy not eating, has diarrhea, and a red spot?

I recommend getting him in to see your vet as soon as possible about the loss of appetite and diarrhea. Puppies that young can dehydrate easily and their blood sugar can drop quickly to life-threatening levels. The diarrhea could be caused by parasites, a bacterial or viral infection, or possibly swallowing something he shouldn't have, irritating the GI tract or, more seriously, getting stuck and causing an obstruction. The skin I'm less worried about, though that can be addressed at the same visit. Many puppies develop what is called puppy pyoderma, which is roughly equivalent to acne in humans. Most outgrow it and it rarely gets bad enough to require medication, but sometimes antibiotics and therapeutic bathing is needed to help them heal more quickly.

Baily is so cute! I am concerned though that he is not eating and having such intestinal upset. I would recommend you take Baily in for an exam with your vet as soon as possible. Puppies this young can get dehydrated very quickly and become quite ill. I am worried about the possibility of intestinal parasites, eating something he shouldn't have (dietary indiscretion), or even a bacterial or viral infection (like parvovirus). Baily may need some tests to see what the underlying cause is, such as a parvo test and fecal test. He also may need some anti-nausea medication, antibiotics, or even fluid therapy if he is dehydrated. I hope he gets back on track quickly!

You need to take Chelsea into a vet now. It is quite serious when a young puppy won't eat well, is lethargic, and has diarrhea. She should be checked out by a vet today to make sure everything is ok. Best of luck.

Hi. With these signs, we get concerned about parasites or parvo virus. It could be serious without treatment if parvo. I'd get the puppy checked out and tested for parvo and parasites. I would try to wean her from nursing or feeding off the moms regurgitation

Poor precious. Make sure she is eating about 5-6 small meals a day to help keep her blood sugar up. Since she is having vomiting and diarrhea I would really concerned about her getting dehydrated and weak. She could have something serious going on like parvo virus or a lot of intestinal parasites. I would strongly recommend to get her in to see your vet as soon as possible so they can test her for parvo and worms. They will be able to make sure she has the appropriate medicine to make her feel better and make sure she isn't getting dehydrated.

Whisky sounds very ill, and at his age, I would be concerned his symptoms are due to parvovirus. That would cause vomiting, diarrhea, and blood in the diarrhea (the red color of his poop). Very young puppies are extremely fragile, and his symptoms are quite serious. I would consider this a medical emergency and he needs to see a vet now. Please take him into one immediately.

I am so sorry to hear that Coco is sick. At 8 weeks old my biggest concerns would be parvovirus, intestinal parasites, and something called intussusception. This is where the intestine telescopes on itself and causes a functional obstruction. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment or seek a second opinion. An 8 week old puppy will become dehydrated and decompensate quickly without supportive care. IV fluids, anti nausea medications and anti diarrhea meds would be a good plan while the diagnostics are Being run to identify the problem such as fecal Exams, parvo test, CBC, And probably repeat x-rays.
