My 3-month-old puppy doesn't bark. Is this normal or a concern?

It's normal for puppies this age to be friendly and not bark - if she were barking at people at this young age, I would be very concerned that she would grow up to be fearful and anxious around strangers. She should start to alert bark when she's older, usually around 10-12 months of age.

Hi there. If Browny isn't barking at anyone, this sounds like good news - most owners spend time trying to get their dogs to *stop* barking at people or other dogs. So congrats, and enjoy your pup. It doesn't sound like a problem at all :)

It sounds like Amos is very comfortable and trusting of other dogs, which is great! :) Some dogs are simply more laid back and easy-going than others, so this isn't necessarily abnormal at all. As long as he is acting normal otherwise and you have no other reasons to believe that something is wrong, this should not be any reason for concern.

I would not be concerned by infrequent barking, and there is no disease that comes to mind that would cause a deeper bark. Sometimes a change in the sound of the bark can be related to certain diseases but if Bella’s bark has always been this way I wouldn’t worry.

But, he is still very young, & when he matures, he may become more protective of his home & bark more. Otherwise, remember, people can be very wary of large dogs, & this may be enough to keep people out. Take care.

Your puppies are still young and are maturing before your very eyes. They are now behaving like dogs. There is no need for concern here. : ) They are likely just happy to see you and now want to express their happiness. As long as they are still eating and drinking normal and not having any diarrhea or vomiting, they are fine medically. Their barking is normal dog behavior for maturing young puppies. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If he is able to produce a normal bark at first then this is not too concerning at all. This just means he did not get enough air through the cords to produce a normal bark. Basically just of a less intense effort. Have a great day!
