Is a 16-week-old puppy with no shots a red flag for adoption?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

my partner and I are thinking of adopting a puppy, he’s 16 weeks but hasn’t been vaccinated at all yet and he is just getting his 2nd dose of de-worming treatment. The women were dealing with took these puppies in for her neighbour to help him because he had to go work out west but I think she’s only had them for two weeks. Is it a red flag that he hasn’t had his shots yet?

No, if he’s healthy with normal poop then he should be fine. I would take him in right away for an exam, vaccinations and a fecal check. He will need boosters again in three weeks. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you get answers to your veterinary questions.
