My puppy's mom died. How old is she and what should I do now?

A pup of 5 weeks should be toileting well and able to eat solid/semi-solid food but you should monitor closely for sufficient food and water intake and regular urine production as he would normally still be learning from his mothers cues. Ensure he is dewormed and keep in isolation from unvaccinated/unknown dogs until his vaccines are up to date and he has developed an immunity against common diseases.

I will attach links to find them online or you can find them at Veterinary hospitals or Pet stores. Around 6 weeks start offering puppy food, either canned or moisten dry food. By 8 weeks the puppy should be exclusively eating puppy food. You can bring Mula to the Vet to help confirm age and have him dewormed. Vaccine are started around 7-8 weeks of age. The puppy at this stage is best being close to the mother. Because you don't have access to her, you'll want to create the environment. You'll need to visit your local Pet store and pick up a puppy feeding kit. This should include a breastmilk substitute/formula, a bottle, and nipples. He'll need to be fed often until he's a little older. Keep him warm with a warm water bottle and be sure to stay close. If he seems weak or unresponsive you'll need to take him to the Veterinarian immediately. The best solution would be to find his mother (if you can) and let him stay with her until 6-8 weeks of age.

First, I would definitely recommend having the litter and mom examined by your vet - there are a number of health problems that could be making the dam reject the puppies. In general a one week old puppy should be eating about 22-30 ml of commercial puppy milk replacer (such as Esbilac) per day, and should be fed every 2-3 hours. Oh my! Coco is adorable! Thank you for including pictures. The good news is that a puppy that is about 4 weeks of age, should be able to eat softened food and not need to be bottle fed. How lovely of you to take in this dog and her puppies! If they cry all the time, then they may not be getting the milk they need to survive and I would start caring for them yourself. You will need to get a puppy milk replacer such as KMR from a pet store or supermarket right away. I will put a link below on how to raise orphan puppies. Hi and thanks for posting! It is hard to say how old your puppy is without seeing him first. Puppies start to open their eyes 10-14 days after birth, so if his eyes are open then he is at least 2 weeks old but may be older. Determining the age of a puppy is typically done by looking at their teeth which can be done during an initial exam with a veterinarian. Jr will need to be on a puppy milk replacement formula until he is 6-8 weeks old then you can transition him to a commercial puppy food.
