This is usually dietary related and if no other signs are present at this stage, the problem could be managed by start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. At 5 weeks of age it is normal for Dexter to sleep most of the day and only be active 2-3 hours of the day. Most puppies aren’t weaned from their mom’s until 8 weeks of age. First vaccines aren’t given until 6-8 weeks of age so you are right in scheduling your vet appointment for next week unless he starts to have diarrhea before then. Definitely feed him 3 times a day or leave dry food out for him all day to prevent hypoglycemia /low blood sugar which is common in puppies and can result in severe weakness and even seizures.
