My 7-week-old puppy barely eats. Is this normal or a concern?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

I got my puppy a week ago and he doesn’t eat much everyday. We have tried dry food, then dry food mixed with wet, and then just wet food but he will only eat about a tablespoon of the food in the morning and then will not eat more until the evening when he eats very little or nothing at all. He is 7 weeks old, is this normal?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. This is not normal behavior for such a young puppy. If he goes too long between meals, his blood sugar will drop too low. I recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian today. In the meantime, you can place karo or maple syrup on his gums to help raise his blood sugar. I hope this information helps!
