My puppy had loose stool for 2 days, now hasn't pooped. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 13 days old | 16 lbs

My dog had loose stool for about 48 hours. Hes not lethargic, and other than this morning which again was loose he hasnt to my knowledge had a bowel movement. Dog walker i hire for while im at work stated he hadnt gone. And theres no evidence he has since.

It may be getting be on his own and it is starting to slow down. If he is eating and drinking normally and feeling fine I would continue to monitor for further BMs. If they continue loose then ibwiukd get him checked since it has been going on for so long. You can always try boiled chicken and rice and add a canine probiotic to help

Good Evening! As long as the stool appears normal (normal consistency, size, shape, no blood, no mucus), he is not vomiting, he has his normal appetite, he has not lost any noticeable about of weight, and he is acting his "normal self", he will likely be just fine. :-). Certain diets can increase the volume and/or frequency of bowel movements. If the stool becomes loose, he loses his appetite, or begins vomiting a veterinary visit may be warranted.

A dog's stool should be firm but not hard. Occasional loose stool is normal, but if it is happening regularly it needs to be checked by a vet. She could have worms, gastroenteritis, or another problem.

I wouldn't get too worried yet. If the softer loose stool happens again or more frequently, I would recommend a veterinary visit. However, if it just happened once, there is no need to rush off to the vet. If needed, you can save a fresh stool sample (12 hours fresh) and take it with you to your veterinary visit if it comes to that. Your veterinarian will most likely want to test his stool during the appointment.

My puppy had diarrhea, now on chicken/rice, why still no poop?

It is very normal for dogs to not have a bowel movement for a day or two after diarrhea. Their intestines are empty. I would continue with the rice and chicken until Roger has nice solid poop and then you can start adding some of his normal food to the rice and chicken for another day before giving only his regular food. My new 6-week-old puppy hasn't pooped in 2 days. What should I do?

You can wipe her perianal area with hypoallergenic baby wipes every 2 hours to help stimulate her to poop. Mother dogs generally lick their puppies perianal regions throughout the day to simulate them to pee and poop. A 6 week old puppy generally should still be given puppy milk replacer via a bottle every few hours. Increasing drinking will improve hydration and help facilitate pooping as well. Cake is not recommended for puppies or dogs, and boiled rice and chicken is very easily absorbed compared to puppy chow. Many dogs on just boiled rice and chicken will not poop for 2 days at a time. I recommend adding puppy milk replacer (you can get this from most pet stores) to Gyspy’s daily diet and slowly adding a high quality puppy food (canned and dry) such as Royal Canin medium dog breed puppy chow. Why is my puppy's stool loose after switching from rice and chicken?

Yes, I suggest you get him a probiotic to add to the food. Use the probiotic with the chicken and rice (no puppy food) for about 4 days and then go back to trying to transition him back to the puppy food. I like this probiotic. I think it is the best. Feed one packet on the food daily. It comes as a box of 30 packets and I would give it for the entire 30 days. http://www.allivet.com/p-1130-purina-pro-plan-veterinary-diets-fortiflora-dog-supplement-box-of-30.aspx If you can't get Fortilfora then you can use any probiotic made for dogs. I am very sorry to hear that Lelani has been so unwell. It sounds as though she is on a great treatment Plan. It can be normal for some constipation to follow a gastrointestinal upset. I would continue to monitor her at home for a few hours. If by the end of the day she still hasn't had a bowel movement, or if she seems in pain or lethargic I Would take her back into the veterinarian. The concern is for a foegein body obstruction. But because she seems happy and active it is less likely.

My dog had diarrhea, now no poop for 12 hours after Imodium. Normal?

Hello! This is normal. You can see a period of no pooping after having diarrhea, and I would not worry that he hasn't had any poop for 12 hours. Just be careful giving him Imodium, it's not safe if given more than two days and it's really safe for smaller dogs. I would keep feeding him the chicken and rice in small portions for the next 3 days, then slowly start adding back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea starts again or he has other symptoms such as vomiting, refusing to eat, blood in his poop, or lethargy, he will have to see a vet immediately. I hope this helps!
