Why is my puppy restless, kicking legs after walk, and can't sleep?

Poor pup. Muscle twitches in a pet so young can be caused by a toxin ingestion, a metabolic imbalance (i.e. Low calcium), an underlining neurological disorder, or it can just be a sign of pain somewhere in the body. If the muscle twitches are happening for more than a few hours then it is best to take Chevy to you nearest veterinarian for a complete neurological examination so that he receives the appropriate treatment. At the very least they can give him muscle relaxers to help with his symptoms and then any pain medication he may need. I hope your puppy gets well soon. Best wishes and good luck at the vet.

I'm sorry Remi is in pain! The amount of walking you are doing with her is ok. The rule of thumb is five minutes for every month of age max twice a day, so a 15 minute walk twice a day is fine. That being said, each dog is different, and it may be too much just yet for her. She also could have injured herself during the walk, such as straining a ligament, or she could be suffering from a disease called paneostitis. This is a painful and self-limiting condition characterized by limping and lameness. It can be common in large and giant breed dogs. I would rest Remi for the rest of the week. No walks, taking her to potty on a leash only and bring her right back in when she's done. If she is still in pain on Monday, have her seen by a vet. Check the leg and foot for any injuries, stickers in the paw, broken nails, swellings, etc. If you notice anything then get her to a vet for an exam. If no injuries are found then wash her off in case she came into contact with a chemical that is causing a reaction and rest her. If no improvement then take her to a vet for an exam.

She could be itchy - some dogs with allergies can have itchy skin after going outside. This could also be how she reacts to being stimulated by exercise. If you think she may be itchy or if her skin looks red after going outside you could see if your veterinarian can recommend an oral or topical medication to help her feel more comfortable.

Lily is adorable! Congratulations on your new puppy! I know how difficult it is to try to keep a puppy from being crazy. I certainly cannot guarantee that she won't hurt herself jumping off something, but our biggest concerns for puppies are repetitive pounding (such as running on concrete for long distances) damaging the growth plates and jumping down from unreasonable distances (such as off the deck). Relatively small jumps (such as from the bed or couch) are less likely to be a problem. The changes you are noticing in her legs are likely due to her growing so quickly which can make their legs look abnormal. The shaking can be from muscle fatigue if it is occurring after she has been active. If you notice any limping or an abnormal gait, I would recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian.
