Puppy leg injury, no vet available, and he's in pain. What to do?

My puppy leg got hurt by a door and it seems like his bone got cut and as there is a lockdown in the whole island no vet is available what should i do? He seems to be in a lot a pain

I am so very soory your pet has such a severe injury and no available vet anywhere for the moment. There isn't a whole lot you can do to help with the pain besides soaking this area in a Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water bath to help relieve some of the inflammation and also cut down on any bacteria that may develop at the site of the injury. You should also clean this daily with sterile saline. Applying a cold compress (for 5 mins max twice daily) on the area first can also help with pain anf inflammation. We can't recommend any over the counter pain medicine b/c they can be quite toxic in pets and therefore we can't risk it. I would try to do this and wrap the leg as best you can with materials (Tefla pad, continuous gauze, cast padding) from your local pharmacy. You can certainly also look up "how to bandage your pets leg" on youtube to learn how to do this safely and without cutting off any circulation in the process. Then work diligently to try and find any vet in the area that can help your poor puppy moving forward, because it sounds like he will certainly need medical attention moving forward if we are going to help him save this leg.

    Poor little puppy! Unfortunately there are no human pain medications you can give him. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I would look up to find the closest vet to you and take him into them now.

    Poor Butch! I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.

    Hi there! I'm afraid there are no human over-the-counter pain medications that are safe for use in dogs - so if you think he's in pain, I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam. Your veterinarian can prescribe a safe and effective pain medication for him if needed.

    In the meantime, the best thing to do at home is keep him calm and quiet so that he doesn't injure the leg further. Make sure that he has a soft padded bed to lay on, and don't allow any running or jumping. You can try holding a warm compress on the affected area if you can tell what part of the leg is hurting him, as this can sometimes help with muscle pain and soreness.

Ouch, your poor pup! You need to take him into the vet as soon as possible. It needs to be cleaned sterilely, he may need x-rays to see if there are any possible broken bones, he needs antibiotics to prevent an infection, some of the cuts may need sutures, and he will need pain medication. How to treat a street dog's severe leg injury or open wound?
It's difficult to tell what's going on from the picture. I'm concerned there is a serious infection or a cancerous growth there and would recommend taking the pup to a veterinarian to be evaluated. If you are unable to do that, then the best you can do is to clean the area with lukewarm water and a mild soap, and keep it nice and dry. If the dog is chewing at it at all, an e collar can be used to prevent him from getting back there. However, I do not think this is going to resolve without veterinary intervention.

My puppy's neck was injured. What to do if no vet is nearby?
I am so sorry! If the dog is unconscious there is a good chance there has been fatal injuries and without medical attention nothing can be done. If you cannot take him to a vet, I would just keep him quiet and still. You can try to support him by syringe feeding him food and water to ensure he gets nutrition. Do not give him any human pain meds as most are toxic to dogs. You can ice the area for 10 minutes three times per day for a couple of days then use a warm compress if he is doing better. If there is an open wound you can put Neosporin on it twice a day and try not to let him scratch at it. Just know without medical attention he may pass away on his own if the injuries are severe. Without me seeing it, there isn't much I can advise. There isn't any good home remedies for severe neck or spinal injuries. I am sorry and I hope he starts to feel better!

Unfortunately, this sounds like the puppy is very injured and ill and needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. If there is not a vet in your town, looking the next town over, or seeing if there is a local animal shelter or humane society that can take him in is best. Until you can find a vet or person to take him in for care, keeping him calm and quiet can help, however he needs to be seen in person ASAP.

For pain relief, you can use Well & Good Buffered Aspirin, which you can find online or at your local Petco quite easily. My puppy has a broken leg and is bleeding. What to do until vet?
Poor Baby! If you believe her leg is broken than you should restrict her activity and keep her quiet until she can be seen by a vet. As for the bleeding, she may have some internal injuries from whatever cause her leg injury. Hopefully, with rest the bleeding will stop. Your vet can do a complete physical examination to determine the extent of her injuries and take xrays, if needed, to determine the best way to treat. If there is an emergency vet open than it would be a good idea to have her seen right away, especially if she seems to be in a lot if pain.

Aside from that, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to check if there are any fractures and to see what would be the best therapeutic step for her.
