Why is my new puppy grinding his teeth and coughing? Is it normal?

Pet's info: Dog | Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 17 days old | 9 lbs

Hello! I am a first time puppy owner and have a couple questions. He is a Wheaten Terrier and was born on March 18th! 1. When he closes his mouth every so often, he makes a sound like his teeth are grinding against themselves. Is that normal for a puppy? 2. He has a slight cough. One that sound like there may be something like mucus in his lungs. Is that something to be concerned about? Thank you so much for easing my concerns :)

Congratulations on your new puppy Sully! At his age, he should be starting to lose his puppy teeth so that may be where the grinding sound is coming from. Open his mouth and look very thoroughly just to make sure you don't see anything stuck in between his teeth, in his cheeks or the roof of his mouth. The coughing I would be a little more concerned about. Pets do get minor viruses and allergies. If he is completely normal otherwise, you may watch the coughing to see if it clears up on its own. If it is getting worse, take him in to see the vet. He's a cutie!

If it is an occasional occurrence then it may be nothing abnormal but if he is doing it frequently then he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have a respiratory infection and/or inflammation and need an antibiotic and and anti-inflammatory to treat.

My 2-week-old puppy coughed. Is this normal, or should I worry?

I wouldn't worry if it was just one-time, however I would monitor the puppies for any additional coughs or signs of respiratory issues (heavy breathing, vomiting, not wanting to eat or drink, turning pale/blue, etc) If the coughing happens again, or you are seeing other signs of illness, a vet visit right away is best.

Is my 12-week-old puppy's teeth grinding while chewing normal?

You are likely describing teething which is basically a normal type of behavior when puppies are growing up and it is secondary to mouth discomfort as teeth are growing. I recommend that you get Ollie teething type toys which you can get at your local pet store or online. Anytime that he tries to nibble at you or something he should nibble on, you say no and give him the toy. This is likely going to resolve the issue. Good luck and have a great day!

My puppy is grinding teeth. Is it dangerous or just teething pain?

They are likely experiencing some pain as teeth push through, I would get a vet to make sure that their teeth and jaws are properly aligned just in case, but otherwise I wouldn't worry. You can get them some soft chew toys to help soothe them.
