Is my puppy's morning cough after crate normal or concerning?

I wouldn't worry if it was just one-time, however I would monitor the puppies for any additional coughs or signs of respiratory issues (heavy breathing, vomiting, not wanting to eat or drink, turning pale/blue, etc) If the coughing happens again, or you are seeing other signs of illness, a vet visit right away is best.

Hiccups are normal in puppies and usually occur when they get tired. They will outgrow this! A cough can be nothing. It minor irritation from the new allegens and environment or from a mild case of kennel cough. If it progresses or seems to interfere with daily life then I would get it checked. If. It certainly could be a heart problem if this coughing only occurs after running and he tires easily, but there is a chance it could be a mild case of kennel cough or a respiratory infection. Until you can get him into the vet, rest him as much as possible. Don't let him run around, keep him quiet, and make sure he keeps eating and drinking. This could be an upper respiratory infection such as kennel cough , but could also be a sign of heart disease, especially if Chico is an older dog. Another very likely possibility is that Chico has a collapsed trachea. You will need to take Chico to your vet for an exam and x-rays (which will rule out collapsed trachea and lung edema caused by congestive heart failure).
