My puppy chews neem branches. Could bark in poop cause a blockage?

At this point, it is likely safe to keep an eye on Echo, but he should be evaluated by a veterinarian if he starts vomiting, has diarrhea (especially if there is blood or mucus) or trouble defecating, or stops eating/appears lethargic. These can be signs that the teething ring has created a blockage in his intestines, and it may need to be removed. It is also possible that Echo will defecate pieces of the ring within the next few days, which is normal. I would recommend feeding him normally, but not giving him any of the teething rings for the next few days. Good luck with your new puppy!

Hi Deja! It is common that puppies eat things outside such as branches and mulch, but it is strongly recommended to keep them from doing that. Branches can cause trauma to the GI tract, and some types of mulch can be toxic to dogs if they contain cocoa beans. Puppies may eat this stuff due to intestinal worms, which would also cause her to poop in her crate. I would make sure Daisy is up to date on her deworming treatments, giving her one if she is not. I recommend Panacur, which is a three day course of treatment. She will need another course of treatment two weeks after the first to kill all the worms, and then she should be dewormed every three months. Pick up any branches outside, and keep her away from the mulch to keep her from eating it.

You can monitor her closely for signs consistent with a gastrointestinal obstruction such as vomiting, nausea, inappetence and abdominal pain. It is possible that the cloth that Ghontu ate could cause a blockage in her intestines. If this is the case, it could become a life threatening surgical emergency. Pine needles and bark are not toxic, but the needles contain some oil that can cause irritation to the the stomach. You may see a decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If these occur for longer than 24 hours, Luna should see a vet for treatment. If she eats a large amount of bark and/or pine needles, it could cause more severe damage internally and potentially cause painful constipation. If she seems in distress when trying to have a bowel movement, she should see a vet for treatment. I would try to prevent her from eating this. You can try to fence off the shrub, take Luna out on a leash, or remove the shrub. It is possible that she will outgrow it, but this breed tends to get themselves into trouble by eating inappropriate things for several years!

I would get Sammi seen by your vet to make sure she has emptied out all the palm nuts she ingested and hasn't done herself any lasting damage. Your vet will do an exam, palpate her belly, maybe suggest x-rays to see if she's empty, just to be safe. If she is eating these nuts without you realizing it, you may need to find a way to prevent her from doing this in the future, either by keeping her on a leash at all times when outside, or by getting a cage muzzle to keep her from picking up and swallowing anything while she is outside unsupervised. A cage muzzle will allow her to bark, pant, drink water from a bowl, but will keep her from picking up and swallowing small objects.

Hello, actually wood is not the best for your dog. This can lead to splinters and foreign objects that I've seen end up in tracheas, esophagus, stomach, lungs, free floating in the chest or abdomen, or causing major injury to the oral cavity (teeth and gums). If you are going to give Donut a chew toy, I would recommend a Kong toy. You can find these online or at your local pet store. These are better for their teeth and durable.
