My puppy is dry heaving and has green, runny stool. Is he sick?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Bear may have eaten something he wasn’t supposed to such as garbage, human food, or pieces of a toy. You should keep a close eye on him to ensure he doesn’t vomit again. If Bear continues to vomit, develops diarrhea or is not acting quite like himself, he should be seen by his vet as he may require medication and supportive care. In the meantime, I would hold off on giving Bear any food for about 12 hours and then reintroduce his normal diet slowly (about 1/2 his normal serving) I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

With these symptoms in such a young puppy I would be concerned about intestinal parasites (hookworms, roundworms, coccidia), parvovirus or a congenital defect. I would recommend taking the young pup to the vet to be checked out. If the puppy is not eating well or is losing a lot of fluids through vomiting and diarrhea then she will most likely need supportive care. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Ralph isn’t feeling well. I recommend taking him to a vet right away. Puppies that age are at risk for dehydrating when they vomit and have loose stools. I would be concerned Ralph could have parvovirus or intestinal parasites. A vet can test him for both and treat as necessary. If he’s dehydrated he will need IV fluids. Also medications to stop the vomiting. Good luck and kisses to Ralph!

That does not appear to be a normal color for vomit. Vomit is usually yellow-ish, the color of the food or brownish. That makes me worried that Bear got into something causing that abnormal discoloration. The smell could be related to whatever it was he ate or indicate that the gut is not moving. I recommend to get Bearr examined today and try to take in a sample of the vomit if possible. Especially with young puppies, it’s always better to be safe. Hi there. It sounds like Bear just has a gastrointestinal upset. It could be from a parasite or something that he ate and wasn’t supposed to. I would recommend having him seen by your bed so they can prescribe something to settle his stomach and make him feel better right away. Puppies can get dehydrated and hypoglycemic when they don’t eat so senior bed as soon as you can would be a good idea. Best to you and Bear.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. it does sound serious. Profound vomiting and diarrhea in such a young puppy can lead quickly to dehydration. If possible, please take Bailey to your local emergency service for an appointment tonight. If this is not an option, you should withhold any water or food overnight, offer him very small amount of water in the morning and take him to your regular vets as soon as they open on Saturday morning.

Vomiting in such a young puppy is usually something to worry about, as he could get dehydrated in a matter of hours, it's probably an infection, i would strongly recommend taking him to the vet ASAP in order to get it treated.
