My 2-week-old puppy has a domed head and strange eyes. Is he okay?

It is difficult to say what the problem could be. The eye could have a birth defect where it didn't develop to its full size, it could have an internal problem, there could be a scratch on the eye or sustained an injury during or immediately after birth. In addition, the puppy seems to have a very round head. This is often seen in dogs with hydrocephalus. Many times, dogs with hydrocephalus do not show any signs and are normal. Signs of hydrocephalus may include lethargy, seizures, and nonspecific pain. The puppy should be presented to a veterinarian to be examined to try and determine what is wrong so that it may be treated accurately and maximize the chance for recovery. It is hard to know what type of dog the sire was. Some type of small terrier or Chihuahua would be a reasonable guess. There are companies that can test the DNA of the puppies and give a report about possible breeds they have in their lineage.

There could be several different causes, but if this lump has been present for a while now it may indicate something very serious, like a defect in the skull. If it has only been there recently, it could be caused by swelling from trauma, insect bite, infection, among a few others. After thorough examination, the vet may recommend diagnostics such as x-rays or cytology to determine what is causing Pandora's lump.

No, do not poke anything into this lesion! It looks as though this puppy has a significant congenital/birth defect that also appears to have misshapen the skull. In many cases, when a puppy has one congenital defect, there are often additional issues that are also present. A vet should examine this puppy (take Holly and the other puppies to the appointment as well) to evaluate this lesion and determine if other issues are apparent. I hope that all goes well!

Bear does look quite small in the picture, and I'm concerned about the shape of his head. It doesn't look normal. I can't say for certain from a picture, but he doesn't look ok to me. I think he needs to get checked out by a vet immediately. Best of luck.

I recommend to get this puppy examined today. That eye looks inflamed and possibly infected. It's possible this is a congenital anomaly but the appearance of the eye looks suspicious for something is trapped in the eye (hair or or object) or that a virus has causes a painful corneal abrasion. The opacity may represent corneal edema which is very worrisome. It's possible he is in pain so get this addressed quickly. Best of luck.

Minnie should go to see the vet as soon as possible. I cannot diagnose her without seeing her in person, but based on your description and her photo I am very concerned she could have a condition called congenital hydrocephalus, which causes fluid buildup in the skull. Unfortunately medical treatment is often not curative and surgery may be needed.
