My 6-month puppy is dizzy and vomiting. Is it an ear infection?

My puppy is 6 months I've never cleaned her ears because I'm not sure how and I don't want to hurt her but I'm starting to think this can be affecting her health. Yesterday she randomly threw up and started swaying back and forth dizzy, this is the third time it happens.She fell asleep and would whine in her sleep.I'm starting to think she has an ear infection. I will get blood tests done on her but I'm just wondering if this could be a reason? Thank you ! and she is eating,drinking and going.

I am sorry to hear about Nina. Unless she has a history of ear infections, then this is not likely her issue. Many dogs don't need their ears cleaned at all as the ear in a healthy dog doesn't usually need to be cleaned. Signs of ear infection include an odor and discharge from the ears, redness and pain of the ear canal, shaking the head, scratching and rubbing the ears. If she hasn't had these signs, this is not likely due to her ears and she should see the vet for an examination.

Water in the ear canal can certainly cause a dog to be disoriented and off-balance. This feeling can result in nausea as well. You can massage at the base of the ear and see if you hear any gurgly or swishing noising indicating that some was caught down there. What you have described definitely does not sound like a gran mal episode or something necessarily worth a trip to vet for at this time. I would continue to monitor Bruce closely for any changes or repeated episodes.

It sounds like Libby have a severe ear infection, and I would take her into a vet immediately. This will be very painful to her, and leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. The vet can confirm that she does have an ear infection, and can treat her for it. Please take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her now.

I recommend that you have Bear evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Your veterinarian would be able to check what type of infection is present and treat accordingly. This presentation could be due to an ear infections. Three sections of the ear can be infected, the external portion (otitis externa), the middle portion (otitis media) and the inner portion (otitis interna). Otitis externa is the most common ear infection in dogs. In this case it seems an external ear infection but an otoscopic examination will determine the exactly the extension of it. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.

My dog has ear infection, dry skin, and fears the vet. Help!

Poor girl. Unfortunately you will need to take her in for this. Over the counter cleaners aren't strong enough to treat for a true ear infection in dogs. If needed, the vet can give her a mild sedative to help calm her down enough to allow then to treat her. There are also suppository medications available to treat pets ears in cases like this where it is difficult to medicate at home. These are available through your veterinarian. I do hope that your fur baby Nina is able to resolve her ear infection soon! Best wishes and take care.
