Why is my puppy distraught, disoriented, with huge pupils and hard belly?

This is most suspicious of a drug, medication, or poison ingestion. It would be good to have a look around the house and see if there is any possibility that he got into prescription medication, or illicit drugs. Certain plants, wild mushrooms and household chemicals (i.e. antifreeze) can also cause toxicity like this. Considering his current signs, it's best to take him to a vet as soon as possible. They can help identify the cause of this and ensure he doesn't have life-threatening complications. If you happen to identify something he could have ingested, then it's best to inform the vet, so he can get the necessary treatment as soon as possible. I hope that helps and Odin gets better soon.

So, potential serious concerns would be 1. poisoning (ie antifreeze, pot, chemicals, rotten carcasses, etc.) 2. seizures (dogs get epilepsy and it commonly presents in puppies 3. metabolic issue like a liver shunt can cause neurologic symptoms 4. trauma to the brain like being hit by a car. Any neurologic symptoms are very serious and I would take him to an emergency veterinarian for a full workup.

Poor Einstein! yes some form of toxin / poison contact would be my first thought as well. If he has had recent access outside I would be concerned about plant or mushroom ingestion - there are quite a few plants can cause this and it is mushroom/ toadstool season as well. My next thought would be are there any medicines that you or your family take that he may have picked up a pill or licked something that was medicated? Finally some household chemicals including pesticides, ant bait, flea treatments, garden chemicals that also could cause this. Does his fur smell abnormal? I really recommend you take him to the ER vet right away. They will probably suggest calling the animal poison control line (which charges a consult fee but is very valuable information). They may start him on IV fluids to help flush out whatever is causing this effect. If they suspect it's on his fur they may bathe him, they may also treat his vomiting an diarrhea symptoms as well there are some general antidote type medicines that they may consider if appropriate. If they are then he could be having a vestibular event. The most common cause is a middle ear infection (under the ear drum) that causes inflammation of the peripheral nerve that control balance. Other causes could be more serious: stroke, seizure, brain tumor, metabolic issues or bleeding that is causing weakness. Harley should see your Vet ASAP this morning for an exam. It may be a simple stomach upset, or more serious condition called pancreatitis. A painful back can also reflect as a painful abdomen as a dog draws up the abdomen trying to protect the back. If there is any retching, vomiting or diarrhea tonight, he should be seen on emergency. Poor puppy. These symptoms of being wobbly, with no associated vomiting or diarrhea, don't necessarily mean he got into a poison. Typically there are some GI symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea) when a pet ingests something they shouldn't have. There could be an internal problem going on or a primary neurological condition. Also a possibility is an adverse reaction to a recent topical flea product or heartworm medication. The Benadryl will likely make him a bit sleepy, so don't be alarmed if you see that. I would consider taking him to your ER vet for further testing, if there is no immediate suspicion for his symptoms, because treating the underlying problem right away is our primary goal here, so that we can hopefully reverse the neurological symptoms before they cause permanent damage. Poor girl. This breed is prone to several disorders that can cause this including: hepatic encephalopathy, hydrocephalus, a brain tumor, or even just vestibular disease. I would highly recommend taking her in to your vet for further testing (ie Bloodwork +/- xrays) as soon as possible. I hope that your fur baby I able to become stable soon!
