Is it okay if my puppy gets dewormed and vaccinated together?

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 3 days old

Is it okay to take 4th time deworming and 2nd shot vaccine at the same time?if not when will he be able to take the other? And if he could take only one, what should i prioritize, vaccine or deworming, in my puppy's case? Thankyouverymuch po.

Hello! We very routinely perform vaccines as well as give dewormers at the same visit. This should not be a problem as long as your puppy is healthy. We typically recommend 3 sets of vaccines (at 8, 12 and 16 weeks) and deworming every 2 weeks until they are over 4 months of age. Good job taking care of your puppy to keep him healthy!

The vaccine at four weeks was unnecessary (should start at six weeks), but the last one is very important. He will need his last puppy vaccine at 16-18 weeks. This is important, because they are most susceptible to getting infected with the diseases we vaccinate for during this period of their life. It is also the time that they are known to mount the best immunity to the vaccines.

The extra deworming does seem unnecessary to me given the info you've provided. The standard for deworming is the stool test; so if it was negative, then I wouldn't deworm unless there was some other concern of her getting infected with a parasite that the interceptor doesn't cover.

Congratulations on your new puppy. At his young age, he can go to the veterinarian for a wellness exam to make sure everything looks okay and he could receive his first deworming treatment. Most veterinarians would recommend waiting to give the first vaccination at 6-7 weeks. If you have any concerns about him including diet due to his very young age, I would take him right away for his first exam and deworming, if he is eating well with no issues, you could wait and take him at 6 weeks for the deworming and vaccine to be done at the same time. Most vaccines, such as DAPP (distemper/adenovirus/parvovirus/parainfluenza) must be given every 3-4 weeks until a puppy is at least 16 weeks old. Depending on the date of your puppy's previous vaccine, this could still fall within the ideal vaccine window. Late vaccines are not dangerous, but do not allow time for the body to mount an appropriate immune response against the diseases. In these cases, speak with your vet about giving another booster 3-4 weeks after this one. There should be no concern about giving the deworming tablet a few days late and it will not interact with the vaccine.

I typically deworm every 2 weeks, starting from age 2 weeks all the way to 16 weeks. Make sure to weight them each time prior to administering, so that you are giving them the correct dose. My 6-week-old puppy needs shots. What vaccines and deworming?

Hi there! Since Mocha is six weeks old, he should go ahead and start his vaccinations now. He will need a DAPP vaccine (for distemper, adenovirus, parvo, and parainfluenza) now - this vaccine will also need to be boostered every 3 weeks until he is 16 weeks or older. He will also need a rabies vaccine anytime after 12 weeks of age. Depending on his lifestyle and what diseases are prevalent in your area, he may also need to be vaccinated against Bordetelle (kennel cough), leptospirosis, and/or Lyme disease. Your veterinarian can discuss the risks of these illnesses in your area and help you make this decision. And yes, he should also be dewormed. You can use a broad-spectrum dewormer like Strongid or Panacur from the pet store, or get a prescription dewormer from your vet's office if you prefer.

Can my 12-week puppy get shots, wormer, and flea treatment same day?

Technically, it is safe, but that's an awful lot to put him through at once. I would wait and apply the flea treatment a few days to a week later, just to give him time to recover from the stress of vaccinations and deworming. Also, if he has a reaction to the vaccinations of flea treatment, you'll better be able to tell which one caused it.
