Why is my 4-month puppy sick: crying, tired, diarrhea, eating plants?

Constant crying can be a sign of failure to thrive in a puppy. If this is the only puppy with diarrhea it could be a concern as well. I’d recommend having your vet examine the puppy to determine what might be going on. They might recommend medications or this pup may need to be supplemented with a bottle to make sure he is getting enough nutrition.

Vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy are quite concerning in any dog, especially puppies because of the diseases they can get such as parvovirus. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. They would be able to check for this disease as well as checking for other possibilities such as intestinal worms or other infections. The sooner these diseases are diagnosed the better the outcome tends to be. At the very least, Gus can be started on anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications and his hydration status can be checked. Hello, sorry to hear about Princess. At a month old, Princess can start to be weaned off mom and switched over to soft foods (wet down dry food or canned food). On those pictures and based on what you're describing, it sounds like Princess may be sick. Her unwillingness to move and crying may be associated with pain. This can be caused by a high number of worms or if she is having a viral disease (in a puppy with unknown history, biggest concern would be Parvovirus). I would recommend having your veterinarian evaluate Princess and test her for Parvovirus and worms. Otherwise, Princess could be continued to be fed both Formula (if she will drink it) and canned food for the next week or two while you completely wean her off the bottle and switch her to soft foods. If you're not sure that she got into a plant, I would take her to your nearest emergency vet today. Puppies can get very sick from a number of different diseases and will get sicker faster than adult dogs. Puppies can quickly have problems getting dehydrated, having low blood sugar and having problems regulating their temperature when they get sick. Puppies are more susceptible to the effects of dehydration and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) than adult dogs, so diarrhea is more serious for Wallace than it would be for an adult dog. If he's back to acting normally, eating, drinking, and doesn't have further diarrhea or vomiting, it's perfectly fine to continue monitoring him at home. However, if he remains lethargic, has more mucousy diarrhea, begins to vomit, or refuses to eat or drink normal amounts, then you should have him examined by his vet. Your vet will need to do a physical exam. Depending on their suspicions based on their exam findings, they may recommend some diagnostic testing or may opt to start him on some medications. Possible causes of this type of issue include stomach upset from a virus, intestinal parasites, among many other issues. If your vet finds that Wallace is dehydrated, they'll also be able to give him some fluids. I hope that he feels better soon!
