Why is my week-old puppy weak, has diarrhea, and cries constantly?

A week long history of diarrhea, weakness and vocalizations in a young puppy are very concerning and i strongly recommend urgent veterinary assessment. Take pictures or samples of the plants in case they may be toxic

Hello, sorry to hear about Princess. At a month old, Princess can start to be weaned off mom and switched over to soft foods (wet down dry food or canned food). On those pictures and based on what you're describing, it sounds like Princess may be sick. Her unwillingness to move and crying may be associated with pain. This can be caused by a high number of worms or if she is having a viral disease (in a puppy with unknown history, biggest concern would be Parvovirus). I would recommend having your veterinarian evaluate Princess and test her for Parvovirus and worms. Otherwise, Princess could be continued to be fed both Formula (if she will drink it) and canned food for the next week or two while you completely wean her off the bottle and switch her to soft foods. Excessive crying can be a sign of a health issue, so I would have him seen by a vet immediately (take along his mother and siblings as well). Newborn puppies are extremely fragile, and very susceptible to cold and low blood sugar, so any potential problems with them need to be check out by a vet right away to give them their best chance at survival. His crying could signify problems in feeding (not getting enough milk), cold, or low blood sugar. Please take him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now.

Young puppies will whine or vocalize when cold, hungry, sick, injured or if left alone for long periods of time. You can make sure he is fed, warm and has company. To diagnose illness or injury, he would need to be physically examined by your veterinarian.

When puppies that young cry constantly like that, it's a sign that something is wrong with them, such as they are very cold or very hungry. Make sure the puppy is warm, and give it a teaspoon of honey or Karo syrup to prevent it from becoming hypoglycemic. Have the puppy, along with Lexi and his littermates, seen by a vet ASAP.

Without a physical exam, we cannot determine if everything is "okay". 40 day sis too young to be separated from the mother and litter. Ideally, a pup should not be separated until about 8 weeks of age. That said, the diarrhea and partial anorexia are concerning in an unvaccinated puppy. Have him seen by your veterinarian today. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites. Parvovirus infection should also be ruled out. Supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, antibiotics, anti-diarrheals and parenteral nutrition) may be indicated.

At this point, I don’t think it’s the soup. Common causes of persistent diarrhea in a puppy would be intestinal parasites, bacterial or viral infection, continued dietary indiscretion (meaning he keeps eating things he shouldn’t), or, less commonly, a food sensitivity to his current puppy food. Since this has lasted longer than 24 hours, I would recommend taking Sunny to the vet for evaluation. They can check a stool sample for parasites and evaluate his vaccination history to make sure there weren’t any gaps, then proceed with a recommended treatment.
