Why is my puppy suddenly crying in pain, drooling, and tongue out?

Hi there I'm so sorry to hear about Oliver's troubles. First, and most importantly, I always ask if a drooling dog has had a rabies vaccine and if they may have come in contact with a wild animal or another dog or cat with unknown vaccine history. If any of the above is the case, even though the chances are low, I would still take precautions and make sure to avoid contact with the saliva or bodily fluids until Oliver sees his veterinarian. If he has had his rabies vaccine, or there is little to no chance that he could have come in contact with another infected animal, then I would be a little less cautious, but still take him in to see his veterinarian. He could be nauseous, which is a very common cause of nausea. This could be because he ate something he shouldn't have and it is bothering his stomach, or he had a recent change in diet, or a new treat introduced. Sometimes rawhide type chews can break off into pieces and get stuck in the stomach causing intermittent nausea. Puppies can also sometimes eat things like pieces of toy, blanket, or even rocks! Another reason a puppy or dog may drool is due to something going on with the teeth - fracture or infection, for example. A piece of foreign material, like a foxtail awn, if they are common in your area, can cause excessively drooling if they become lodged in the oral cavity as well. The above are some reasons for drooling, but there are many more. To be safe, since Oliver is so young, I would make an appointment with his veterinarian to have him checked. They can make sure he doesn't need any tests to be run, like Xrays or blood work, and they can also send home some medications to make him feel better, should it be something like an upset tummy. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. However, the waxing and waning aspect is unusual for something like parvovirus making it less likely. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. You can start by changing his diet to see if it is possible that he has a sensitivity to his current diet perhaps. If no improvement, I recommend that you have Bruce evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they address dehydration if present and start him on anti-nausea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!

I am sorry to hear about Lola. It sounds like she needs to get to the vet right away. With her symptoms we would worry about things like a bleeding stomach ulcer, trauma due to ingestion of a foreign object, bleeding due to a disease such as Addison's disease, or a blood clotting disorder which can be caused by ingestion of a poison. With all these symptoms you describe I would recommend taking Lola to the vet right away, to an emergency vet if there is one in your area this evening. The vet can examine Lola and will likely recommend bloodwork and x-ray or endoscopy to try to pinpoint the cause of her symptoms and determine the best course of treatment.

This combined with the loose stool are signs of gastrointestinal upset. The dribbling urine though is not a typical sign of GI disease and it is worrisome. If he is dehydrated, he may not be making much urine. His veterinarian will evaluate him and determine if fecal or urine tests are necessary. I hope this information helps!

If only Jessie could talk! This type of behavior could be related to something like anxiety or to pain/discomfort. I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian who will check for evidence of pain on the physical exam. They may also check a urine sample or the anal glands as well. Since she can't talk, it's best to play it safe. If this is behavioral, try taking her for a walk or a play a game to distract her. Best of luck.

Poor pup! If you don't see any direct injury or abnormality, it could be in her spin, neck or TMJ. Soft tissue injuries are also possible. Spinal and neck lesions are potentially serious. It sounds like Paris is in pain and I recommend to have her examined today. She will get medication to help her to feel better and the veterinarian will conduct a physical exam which may diagnose the cause of her pain. Other diagnostics may be needed as well. Poor Emma. That is very concerning that she is moaning and whining in pain and I really think she should be examined by a vet as soon as possible to determine the cause. She could have a parasite or an infection and your vet can test a stool sample, if needed. She may need a dewormer, antibiotic, and fluids to prevent dehyration.
