Why is my puppy suddenly crying in pain, drooling, and tongue out?

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 17 days old | 6 lbs

My baby shit tzu -- maltesse all of a sudden started crying in pain n her tongue is hanging out n drooling lots. She was fine all day. I also have a 19 yr old jack russell that was really ill for 3 days n his back legs gave out a few times n my puppy is doing the same

Hello, and thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that Jessie is unwell. There are many possible causes for her symptoms, for example, she may be nauseous due to toxin ingestion or an upset tummy. She may be painful in her abdomen. Or, she may just be teething which can cause mild discomfort and drooling.

If her symptoms do not improve in the next few hours, I would recommend getting her to the vet. They can perform a full physical exam to detect any areas of pain or discomfort, and check for fever and dehydration. If necessary, they may recommend blood work or x-rays to narrow down a cause. At minimum, they may be able to prescribe pain medications if pain is suspected.
