My dog is crying and shaking with jaw/neck pain. Is it serious?

It sounds like she should be examined by a vet to determine the source of her pain. She could have neck or back pain, arthritis, abdominal pain, etc. and your vet should be able to localize the pain and decide the best way to treat. She may need an anti-inflammatory and your vet can prescribe. Do not use any human OTC pain relievers as they can be toxic to dogs.

This is very painful and can cause shaking, panting and a reluctance to jump. Her veterinarian can detect this on her exam or another problem if that may be the case. In the meantime, keep her quiet. This is very suspicious for a lesion in the spinal cord, such as a prolapsed disk or a sprain or other trauma or condition that impacts the nerves exiting the vertebrae, She may also be suffering from meningitis or encephalitis, as this can cause nausea and vomiting and stiffness of the neck. Please take Charlotte to a veterinarian or Pet ER now. Blood tests will need to be done and possibly x rays. This is obviously a painful condition, so she will definitely need pain medicine .

Poor Baby! It sounds like he may be suffering from some neck pain. This could progress causing neurological problems if left untreated. I would have your vet take a look at him to localize the pain and to ensure nothing else is going on. Your vet will be able to do x-rays if needed. I'm so sorry to hear that Dayzee is not feeling well. The most common reason that we will see a young dog that is shaking and whining in pain are either neck or back pain or abdominal pain. The cold and dry nose does not normally help us determine what is going on with her. The only way to determine what might be wrong is to have your veterinarian do an examination on her to see if they can find anything that is painful. I am sorry to hear about your dog. I would definitely recommend a visit to your veterinarian. I would be concerned about a problem with a tooth such as infection or fracture, or a problem with an ear being painful, or possibly a problem with the jaw or the temporal mandibular junction (joint of the jaw). The vet should be able to look her over and hopefully localize where the problem is coming from. They may recommend an x-ray if they are afraid of a break, or an ear swab if it looks like the ear is involved. Another possibility could be neck pain which the vet can check for as well.

I would be very concerned about this level of pain and would recommend an exam by a veterinarian. It could be neurological, a disc problem, a strain in the bones or muscles of the neck or possibly an infection somewhere in that area. The vet may recommend x-rays to get a diagnosis. Please do not give any human pain medication as these can cause serious side effects in animals. It is best to get pain medication that has been prescribed by your veterinarian that is safe for dogs.
