My puppy's coat isn't long. How to make it shiny and grow fast?

To help the hair coat reach it's potential (you can not change genetics) feed a high quality commercial dog food (no people food), supplement with Omega 3 fish oils, brush the coat daily, deworm regularly if exposed to the outdoors and bath with a moisturizing shampoo as needed. I am not sure if Bee is losing hair, has balding areas or if you are just hoping for something different but you can always post a picture or provide details on what is going on with his coat. She is young and does not have her full adult coat in yet. make sure she is on a good quality puppy food. You can brush her regularly as this can help. Give her more time as her puppy coat will start to change into her adult coat and the texture and length can still change.

Puppies are born with a soft hair coat known as their "puppy coat". I have seen this fall out as early as 3 months of age and is replaced by adult fur. Sharon is such a great looking dog! The best thing you can do for the fur is to ensure he is on a high quality dog food. You can also add in some fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids over the food twice a day. This will help make the coat grow and shiny. Also, brushing him daily will keep it clean. You can bathe him every 2-3 weeks in a moisturizing shampoo. If you bathe him too often, it will dry out his skin. I hope this helps!

You have the right idea. The coat quality of a dog is heavily dependent on the food it eats. That is that a good quality complete dog food for the breed or size of your breed (in your case puppy food) will make it possible for the hair coat to be at its best. However, puppy coats usually look fluffy, not slick and do not have as nice a shine as an adult coat.In an adult hair coat, a black coat will be blacker, the coat will be very shiny, it will feel not dry and also not greasy, there will be no dandruff.

In general, using a high quality brand is the best way to assure that Bear Bear's coat is healthy. Brands that I typically recommend include Science Diet, Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin because these companies conduct extensive clinical studies and analyses regarding their foods and source ingredients appropriately. Continue feeding Bear Bear puppy food until he is 1 year old, then gradually transition to an adult dog food. Anytime you make a diet change, be sure to do so by gradually mixing old and new foods together over 5-7 days. Bathing every 2-4 weeks in a gentle oatmeal based dog shampoo can also be beneficial. If he seems to have dry skin, an omega 3 fatty acid supplement (such as Welactin) can be beneficial. Also, make sure that he is receiving a high quality flea and tick preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto or Advantix) regularly.
