Why did my puppy bury her face in water and shiver? Is she okay?

It is not uncommon for very small animals to feel a little chilly after drinking a lot of water, however, if Kylie continues to shiver for more than a half hour, or if this happens again I would consider checking in with your veterinarian. If Kylie starts having any signs of lethargy, vomiting, or diarrhea you should seek an emergency clinic. I hope this helps!

I understand that any change in behavior worries you - it would be so much easier if they could just tell us what they were thinking! I don't think this sounds like anything concerning as long as Athena seems to be drinking the same amount of water and isn't having trouble drinking. If your gut is telling you something is wrong however it may be best to have your vet examine her and make sure everything is okay.

This is a fairly common behavior that pet owner witness with their dogs. It is not a concerning behavior and can be due to boredom, different water bowl, the placement of the water bowl, etc. There is no need to be concerned about the behavior and you can try using a different water bowl in a different location to see if this behavior lessens. However, the stumbling could be concerning if it continues though keep in mind that that it could be transient and not occur again. Hopefully Chevy is just fine. She’s adorable! Shivering can be a sign of discomfort. She will probably be sore and bruised from the fall so I’m not overly concerned about that. You may want to wake her to make sure she’s acting normal, and I would give her something to eat to make sure she’s able to eat normally. Luckily puppies are very resilient and usually heal quickly from minor injuries. Please take her in right away for treatment if she’s unable to eat, the bump enlarges, or she doesn’t act normally. I think it would be ok to monitor her now. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This sounds very strange and I wouldn't say it is normal. Possible causes are extreme tiredness, but at almost 12 weeks of age that is strange too. The fact you had to pour water on her face to wake her up isn't normal. I would worry about a seizure, a liver shunt or low blood sugar. If she isn't eating well and/or is having vomit or diarrhea and isn't as active as she has been she should be seen by a Vet. If this occurs again try to video tape it and take her the vet. I wish Peach the best!
