When should my puppy get booster shots after a delayed start?

Puppies need a series of DA2PP (also called DHPP, combo boosters or Distemper/Parvo) vaccinations every 2-4 weeks until they reach at least 16 weeks of age (but up to 18-20 weeks in some cases). Lepto is an optional vaccination that does need to be boostered once. Bordatella is an optional vaccination as well. What your veterinarian is recommending appears to be the appropriate boosters of the vaccines that Toffee previously received. That;s a great question! Foggy may need a booster in a month for a couple of his vaccines, but will probably not need a whole new series like he did as a puppy. There are other vaccines that may be good for a year, despite him being overdue. I recommend contacting your veterinarian to book Foggy's vaccination appointment as soon as possible, as certain vaccines (like rabies) can be required by law.

I would absolutely bring Gus back 3-4 weeks after the last vaccination. Puppies should be vaccinated every 3-4 weeks until they are 16 weeks of age. This is when the maternal antibodies wear off and we know that the vaccinations are protective. Also the rabies vaccination should be given no earlier then 12 weeks and in some states you have to wait until 16 weeks of age. Bordetella vaccine can be given to puppies from 8 weeks of age. The rabies vaccine will have to be repeated at 12 to 16 weeks (depending on your state's law) as maternal antibodies will destroy it and your puppy will not develop an immunity against rabies at this age. It is unlikely that your puppy will have any detrimental effect from those vaccines given at the age of 8 weeks. Whether the bordetella vaccine needs to be given again will depend on the type and brand of the vaccine. I suggest you follow the advice of your veterinarian. Accidents like this can happen, and it is likely that the tech who filled out your initial admission made a mistake when entering the information in the computer. Hello, Oso should be vaccinated with a Distemper, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Hepatitis, and coronavirus. Additionally, he should also be vaccinated for rabies and bordetella. He will need 3 booster shots of the first combo vaccine, a booster of his bordetella, and repeat booster of all of these when he is 1 year of age. Hope this helps and best of luck.

The "core" vaccines that Bentley *should* have received as a puppy are his rabies vaccine (usually given between 12-16 weeks of age) and his distemper/parvovirus vaccines (usually given every 3-4 weeks from 8 to over 16 weeks of age). Both these vaccines would be boostered a year later. If you have no vaccine history on Bentley, then it's best to err on the side of making sure he's protected. It won't hurt him to get the vaccines now, even if he received them as a puppy. I would definitely get him vaccinated for rabies and distemper/parvovirus, and then I'd recommend talking to your vet about the other "non-core" vaccines they recommend for your area and Bentley's potential risk. Possible additional vaccines could include bordetella ("Kennel cough"), canine influenza, lyme, and leptospirosis.
