My 4-week-old puppy has bloody poop and pus pimples. Is it serious?

If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

Blood in the poop can be caused by intestinal worms, a stomach illness, sudden change in diet, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or a severe illness like parvo. Because poop in the poop can have some very serious causes and it's been going on for a few days, it's time to see the vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing it and can treat her. I get concerned with things a lot sooner with such a young puppy. The watery blood would make me recommend an exam by itself. I would want a urine sample to see if there is blood in the urine. The pustules have me concerned about a bacterial infection. I would recommend taking him in for an evaluation by a veterinarian. He might need to be on antibiotics or at least a topical medication. This type of diarrhea could be due to G.I. parasites, which is not uncommon at all in puppies. This could also be related to the stress of a new home environment or diet change if it's occurred in the past week or so. There are over-the-counter deworming medication. However you may want to contact your veterinarian and see if they want you to bring in a fecal sample so they can tell you for sure if she has G.I. parasites. Generally speaking deworming medication it's fairly safe and would not be harmful if your puppy did not have parasites. However there are some G.I. parasites that require prescription strength deworming medication. But your veterinarian could do the fecal test and tell you if that is the case.

Hi there. Poor Ruby! It definitely sounds like she's teething-puppies go through this stage of putting everything in their mouths the same as humans. Since Ruby is not 4 months or more yet, she is still not considered fully vaccinated. If her vaccines were home vaccines and are from a store over the counter-sometimes they are improperly stored and provide poor immunity. Any time there is blood in the stool it warrants a trip to your veterinarian right away, as your puppy can be very sick when showing this symptom. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what I can tell via your photo, this looks a lot like puppy pyoderma-a very common condition among young dogs. Essentially, these are "pimples" for puppies and usually caused by staph bacteria. I will usually try to rule out any underlying flea problem resulting in pustules, etc when I see these patients. If I see nothing else of concern I will usually prescribe antibiotics for 10-14 days at which point the breakout has usually cleared up. I would recommend seeing your vet to do these things as well-Lala will be much more comfortable without pustules. I hope this helps!
