My puppy's stomach is bloated and gassy. What can I do to help?

My puppy was a stray,a vet gave him to me.ever since his stomach has been bloated.The vet said he ate to fast so he got gas.i started feeding him myself,nothing has changed.his starting to eat dry food.his appetite or energy havent changed at all.his stool is solid and normal.at night i can hear his stomach make noices like bubbles popping.he doesnt have worms.just worried bc his stomach gets really big it looks like he's pregnant. Should i give him pepto or what should i do?

Some of what you are describing for Prince sounds like normal puppy behavior.
I do not recommend any over-the-counter people medications unless your regular veterinarian gives you the recommended dosage and frequency that Prince could have.
You can try to slow down his eating habits by purchasing a special bowl. You should be able to find some at a local pet store or online. It might be wise to pre-moisten and expand the dry kibble you are feeding with warm water so that it doesn't expand after eaten and cause some GI distress.
If Prince develops diarrhea or vomiting, have him examined by your veterinarian to ensure that he hasn't picked up any kind of infection such as a parasite or virus.

Since Prince is a puppy I recommend a veterinary exam. With not eating or drinking and having diarrhea he can become severely dehydrated. They will give fluids to prevent dehydration, and medicine for the vomiting and diarrhea. They may check a fecal for intestinal parasites and do blood tests to check for infection and to make sure his organs are functioning normally. With treatment he should improve. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This is likely a dietary indiscretion but could be due to another cause. There are many causes of vomiting but if Prince is otherwise normal and has normal energy, I would recommend switching to a different food such as Science Diet or Royal Canin and see if the vomiting resolves. If the vomiting does not resolve or it worsens, then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Prince so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. It seems as Prince is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor Cabella! You could try feeding her a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for the next few days to help settle her stomach. If she hasn't been dewormed recently, I would also suggest doing this as intestinal parasites are a very common cause of a bloated belly and excessive gas or loose stools in a puppy this age - you can get a broad-spectrum dewormer labeled for use in dogs, such as Strongid or Panacur, at most pet stores. Follow directions on the package label for dosing, based on Cabella's weight. If these things don't help, or if she develops any other symptoms such as vomiting, acting lethargic, or not wanting to eat, I'm afraid that she will really need to see a vet as these can be signs of a more serious problem. I hope she's feeling better soon!

It could be Prince has an upset stomach. I'd feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts a couple of times a day for a few days. If this helps, then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the noises continue on the bland diet or he develops other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or anorexia, take him into the vet. I hope this helps!

My puppy ate super fast. Is his stomach bloated, and is he okay?

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. It is pretty typical for puppies abdomens to look distended after eating whether they eat fast or not. It is more to do with the amount they are eating more than than the speed. Puppies abdomens can also be distended due to worms. If he has not been dewormed that should be done as soon as possible. Puppies should be dewormed every 3-4 weeks until they are 4 months old, then once monthly. That being said, eating fast is not good for them for other reasons. They can swallow a bunch of air which can cause bloat. So, I recommend you either feed him smaller, more frequent meals or get him a special bowl that will slow down his eating (see link). My puppy's stomach bloats after drinking. Should I be worried?

8 week old puppies, even large breed ones, have pretty tiny stomachs, and they also have poor abdominal musculature development at this stage. Those 2 factors can cause you to really be able to see their abdomen bulging when the stomach is full or water or food. So that might be one reason you're seeing this. The other reason could be that Mishka has intestinal parasites. They are very common in young puppies, so if she hasn't been dewormed, this should be done, at least twice (3 - 4 weeks apart). It's also a good idea to have your vet check a stool sample. You can buy dewormer over the counter in most pet stores; follow the directions on the package.

Why is my 5-week-old puppy's stomach bloated, yet she's active?

I would recommend a vet check to determine if there are nay underlying medical causes but the fact she eats well is a good sign. Monitor for regular stools and no pain or vomiting and ensure she is dewormed regularly with an appropriate puppy wormer (every 2-4 weeks depending on the product). Keep her isolated from other dogs (especially dog parks etc) until she is fully up to date with her vaccines
