My dog is on antibiotics, still eating grass. Should I go back to vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 months and 24 days old

Panda has been on antibiotics since monday as he was vomiting now he is keeping small amoiunts of food down but eating lots of grass he is pooping but its very hard and grassy the vet wasnt sure if he has bacterial infection or a blockage due to forieign object or his intestine had telescoped inside its self causing a blockage should i take him back to vet and get further test done now

It is a good sign that Panda is eating and keep down food even though it's small amounts, but it sounds like to me you are very concerned about him. It can take at least 24-48 hours to see some improvement in symptoms, and it can take a while for him to go back to eating normally. That being said, eating grass can be a sign of nausea, and if he's eating a lot, he may still be quite nauseous. I think that since you feel he hasn't improved and I can't see him in person, it's a logical next step to go back to the vet for further testing.

    I'm sorry Panda still isn't doing well! It is a good sign that he's keeping food down, and when a dog is really sick, it can take time for a their full appetite to return. It does sound like you are quite concerned about him, and I'd give your vet a call to let them know your concerns. A logical next step is an x-ray to see if there is a blockage or other problem with his intestines. I recommend speaking to your vet to see if they feel it's a viable option for him.

    I'm sorry Panda still isn't doing well! It is a good sign that he's keeping food down, and when a dog is really sick, it can take time for a their full appetite to return. Given that this has been ongoing since last Tuesday, and you are so concerned about him I'd recommend having x-rays done. X-rays may identify if he has a blockage or a concerning area of his intestines. You can speak to your vet to see if they feel that's a good option for him.

I'm glad to hear that Panda is doing better! It could be that the things he ate caused inflammation of his intestines and vomiting, and also made his nauseous leading him to eat grass. I would continue to give him the prednisone as prescribed, and contact your vet with any questions and concerns. I hope he continues to improve :-)

Oh no, poor Panda! It is concerning that he had dark stools this afternoon and this can be due to blood from his GI tract. I would monitor him for now since he is bright and eating. Should he continue vomiting, becomes lethargic, continues to have diarrhea, and/or stops eating he will need to see a vet immediately.

My dog has diarrhea after amoxicillin. Is it normal? What about grass?
Hi there. So sorry Roxie is having this issue. Yes, it can be normal for them to break with full blown diarrhea despite the meds especially if the medications were just started. I can't tell when the medications were started based on your post but they do take a day or two to start working. I would only be worried if she starts vomiting on top of the diarrhea. Unfortunately there is no way to stop her from eating grass except physically removing her from that area when she starts doing that. It sounds like her stomach is upset - could be from the amoxicillin. Be sure to give that with food to avoid stomach upset. Plain white bread would be good to give her to soak up some of the stomach acid. If her symptoms continue to worsen be sure to call your vet back and let them know. I hope this helps. Best wishes. My dog's not improving: lethargic, limping, diarrhea on meds. Help!
If your dog does not start showing improvement after 48 hours of being on the medication and/or if his symptoms persist, then you should take him back to your veterinarian for a recheck. He may need additional diagnostics like blood work, X-rays, and/or a parvo test (depending on his vaccination status). He may also need supportive care like nausea medication and fluid therapy. My dog has diarrhea and vomiting again after finishing antibiotics.
I would take Peanut back into a vet immediately. She sounds quite sick, and I think further testing is needed to be done to determine what is causing her diarrhea and vomiting, such as blood work, a urinalysis, and x-rays. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

For a dog that usually eats well, 5 days is getting a little long to let it go. I would recommend that you have Panda checked out by a vet to see what could be going on. There are so many things that could be causing his vague symptoms, including pain, infection, intestinal issues (including obstruction), among many others. After physical examination and a thorough medical history discussion, your vet may recommend treatment, bloodwork, or x-rays to see what could be going on.
