My puppy had a bad reaction to flea shampoo. What should I do?

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Kaine regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

I never consider flea shampoo safe to use, so my answer is no, instead if he has fleas i would recommend using one of the followings (which you can use right away): Bravecto, Nexgard, Advantage, Comfortis.

I would monitor Mufasa for now and if he begins to tremble, shake, twitch or have seizures, take him to the veterinarian immediately. You did the right thing by rinsing him off immediately. Poor Sam. It’s possible he may have had a reaction to the medication. I recommend to wash him with dish soap to help remove some of the medication. I also recommend to have Sam examined by his veterinarian for some bloodwork to make sure there has not been any liver damage. If Sam cannot tolerate a collar or the topical preventive, talk with your veterinarian about starting him on an oral medication like Nexgard. Best of luck.

Hello. Harley is having a significant allergic reaction, possibly from the shampoo, possibly from something else. You may have inadvertently left some shampoo on his skin & coat, so I would rebathe him in lukewarm water & no soap. Make sure you rinse multiple times to make sure all shampoo is removed. If he is not uncomfortable, you can just watch him as it may take a day or two for the bumps to subside. If he is very itchy or uncomfortable & chewing at his skin, please see your veterinarian. Coco will likely be just fine as long as this was a flea shampoo intended for dogs, and none of it got into his eyes. I recommend drying him gently with a towel and ensuring he stays warm enough. If he stops eating or drinking, or begins showing any unusual clinical signs such as wobbliness, trembling, or seizures, or he starts squinting his eyes, he should be seen by a veterinarian right away. While it's not recommended to combine flea treatments, this should be ok. I'd just monitor Layla to be safe, but I would not expect a reaction. Next time she needs a bath and you don't have any dog shampoo, you can use Dawn dish soap. I hope this helps!
