My 3-month-old puppies are attacking a female. Is it mating?

The only way is to separate them completely, obviously until she gets in heat she cannot get pregnant, but he could hurt her doing what he does. if you can't separate them you might consider having the male neutered early.

This behavior is often considered part of a dominance issue and can be seen amongst any dogs, even neutered dogs occasionally. Be aware that your puppy will be able to mate very shortly and you should consider neutering her or making arrangements to keep them separated for 3weeks when she comes in heat next

This is a good question. This may be unrelated to being intact, but in dogs that have early signs of aggression, I find that neutering ASAP can cause those signs to improve. Sometimes mounting behavior will continue (and even seen in females) but if there are other signs of aggression I would neuter immediately and also consider calling a positive reinforcement based trainer. Neutering both dogs at 1 year of age may help if this is related to the female (male dogs may still try to claim possession of her even if she is fixed). If the younger dog is already exhibiting undesirable behaviors, you may look at neutering him now. There is a possibility this is not related to the female. Working with a professional trainer may be your best option. Also, after the neutering, the hormones will still be around for about a month so it’s not instantaneous. I hope this helps.

Males can mate after 6 months of age. Females can be bred, ideally, after 2 years of age. Separating them during this upcoming heat cycle would be recommended if you are not prepared to breed dogs and have a litter of puppies. By her next cycle, both will be more than ready to breed and in the interim, you can gain knowledge regarding breeding and raising dogs.

If your female dog isn't spayed, she could be coming into heat causing this behavior. Female dogs go into heat around every six months, and if you have had her for five months, it would be about time to go into heat again. This behavior will continue every six months unless you get her spayed, which I highly recommend getting done. Best of luck!
